European 1.0L Yaris receives Michelin Energy Savers

Yaris has a 3% increase in Fuel Economy due to a change in OEM tires.

Wayne Gerdes – CleanMPG – Feb. 5, 2009

2009 European Yaris 1.0L VVT-i -- Approximately 38.5 mpgUS combined on our own 08 EPA.

The Michelin Energy Saver will be the only tire available on the upcoming Toyota Yaris 1.0 VVT-i. The tire contributes to the low environmental impact of the new Toyota, which is scheduled for launch in early 2009, by reducing fuel consumption up to 3% on the European New European Drive Cycle(s) (NEDC) combined.

With the Energy Saver, Michelin has met the challenge of providing Toyota’s compact city car with a tire capable of delivering performance in four areas: significantly greater fuel efficiency, superior grip, long tread life and a more comfortable ride.

Michelin and Toyota worked together to achieve this result with research and development teams coordinating their efforts in a number of areas to obtain the balanced performance the carmaker was seeking. Innovative solutions were introduced for the rubber compound, which integrates new forms of silica, as well as for tire design and production processes.

For more than 15 years, Michelin has focused its innovation strategy on reducing its tire’s impact on vehicle fuel consumption. In 1992, Michelin demonstrated that integrating silica in rubber compounds would reduce the tire’s energy requirement while optimizing performance in other key areas such as grip and wear-resistance. Since the market launch of these first tires, Michelin has helped to generate fuel savings of more than 2.65 billion gallons, thereby reducing the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere by more than 25 million tons.

Through their development partnership, Michelin and Toyota are delivering simple, affordable solutions designed to make cars safer, more economical and more environmentally friendly.

Re: European 1.0L Yaris receives Michelin Energy Savers

Is there a post for a comprehensive list of all available LRR tires? And their ranking in order of FE or whatever best differentiates them? I have no idea what 13" tires would provide the best results for my Metro or 18" tires for the Magnum. Please advice. - Dale

This line of thought seems fairly effective and on a relatively low cost per unit. It may not be as great an idea as a total revamp for even greater efficiency it is way more cost effective during these economic times - the side benefit is we win also with new tire technology that is available at the scrimp and scrape level.

Re: European 1.0L Yaris receives Michelin Energy Savers

Hi Dale:

___Look in the files section for along list of tire RRc’s. Each size tire within a model lineup has different RRc's so you will not see a list under an SAE or Euro test in the near future. Plans are for 2011 or so however.

___Good Luck
