Don’t Worry About Your Prius Batteries
There’s more than a few 1st gen Prius that are in the quarter million mile club (record is 400,000 and still going), that are still running like trains.

Perhaps the public is finally unafraid of those mysterious batteries. Related: Cab Driver's Prius Cost Recovered in 24 Months. -- Ed.
So late last night, I get an email from the Big Boss Man, Chris, about the batteries on the Toyota Prius. The conversation goes something like this:
Chris: “Want to do a factual/opinion piece on this? It’s a question I’ve heard quite a few times.”
Tony: “You mean changing out the Prius battery question is one you’ve been hearing?”
Chris: “More like what happens when the batteries stop recharging. Seems like people think they’ll run out within a few years.”… [Read More]

Toyota has been keeping track of all the Prius out there to see how they’re doing in the real world.
|
Wonder how they keep track of the Prius cars?

Re: Don’t Worry About Your Prius Batteries
Ryan,
I'm sure the dealers have to report to Toyota servicing on items like traction battery packs. Out of a million Toyota hybrids sold, I've heard only about 200 traction packs have experienced problems....can anyone verify this?

I kinda figured they would keep track of problems from the dealer. I was thinking there might have been some kind of voluntarily feedback system between the owner and Toyota for the 1st gens.
