Week of 08/21 - 08/28/06
I guess we can continue this daily thread thing for the time being?
Nothing special this morning, except I finally saw the face of the kid who tears around in that white RSX every morning. As I was getting ready to get on the highway I saw him try to pass (this time legally), fail due to traffic, and then try again only to wind up directly in front of me at the light. I figure, he put so much effort into getting in front of me, why not just whip out my pen and blatantly write down his tags for my own future reference? So I did, and he saw it, and I'm 90% sure he knows why given his routine. Maybe a bad judgement call on my part but maybe he'll take the subtle hint before getting himself and possibly someone else hurt. A guy can dream...
Oh, right, the FE thing! Pretty miserable trip of 40.3mpg this morning. Also, I filled up yesterday at 547.7 miles and pumped 13.725gal, for a whopping 39.9mpg. It's kind of sad that I broke my run of 7 40mpg+ tanks, but it probably had to happen some day. Morning temps in the mid 50s (F) aren't doing much to help recently.

Re: Tuesday 8/22/06
I got gas last night. Finished off the 640.0 mile tank at 62.1MPG. A new personal best!!
I rolled into the station at 62.0MPG at 639.8 miles and since it's a large station, I decided to stealth and glide to round up the miles. As I stealthed around, the MPG went up. The OCD part of me really wanted 62.0MPG at 640 miles.
Yeah yeah, I know the Insighters are still calling me a slacker but I'm fine with that.
By the way, I know that probably only one person will understand this, so if your not xcel, feel free to skip this part:
I drive Hwy21 every day to Gages Lake and then Hunt Club. Knowing that I wanted to get and keep the mileage, I continued up Hunt Club to Stern School, over to Dillys and up to Wadsworth. The 41/Wadsworth station currently has the cheapest gas around. There's some dandy gliding on Dillys past the pyramid.
This morning, my commute segment was 68.4 which I know will be pummelled this afternoon sitting in traffic, running the A/C, draining the battery. The A/C will be on because I just don't have the heart to stop carpooling just because I don't want to affect my mileage.
Happy Tuesday!

Re: Tuesday 8/22/06
I purchased gas yesterday and came through with a displayed mpg of 64.3 on a tank of 766 miles. The actual mileage was 62.9, not my best, but close to the 63.1 of last year.
With temperatures here in the mid 60s in the AM and mid 80s in the PM, this will be the last tank of the summer high end tanks. So far, after 110 miles, I am at 63.5.
Have a great day everyone!

Re: Tuesday 8/22/06
Hi All:
___Great tanks and segments even if they are not the record busters …
___Tony, there is some beautiful P&G country out north of us, isn’t there and I am personally glad I did not take your Prius II down a notch during my time behind the wheel as I always worry about that
___As for me, I still have 2 movies to watch, a bit more write-up, some news to post, and hopefully will not have to go anywhere for a few days … Whoops, forgot about the CarMax thing looking for the new red TCH w/ Leather and NAVI for the wife
___Good Luck
___Wayne

Re: Tuesday 8/22/06
Good drive in this am. Just not just mpg, @ 46 mpg. Low 70's, no wind and humid. Funny how the Civic hasnt wanted to climb up on th empg curve the last week or so. See how the evening drive goes.

Re: Tuesday 8/22/06
A better segment this morning -- made 65mpg. For fun today I kicked off my right shoe and drove barefoot. I was in EV w/assist and I could swear I could not only feel but hold the exact tension-point in gas pedal pressure just before the ICE kicks back on.
LA's heating up again, it's going to be another warm drive going home today.

Re: Tuesday 8/22/06
Okay getting in to work today. The cold spell is making things more difficult to pull decent numbers.

Re: Tuesday 8/22/06
I had a pretty good day overall. The drive to take my wife to work this morning(5.86 miles) was 58.6 mpg. The drive on to work was nothing special though. 9.1 miles at 49.6 mpg. Tonight was much better. I took the back way to pick up my wife and the 9.3 mile trip came in at 61.0. From her work to home ended up at 53.4 mpg. Now that I look at the numbers, I think they were all new records. Hmm, I wonder if this has anything to do with my trip on Saturday.

Re: Tuesday 8/22/06
i'm leaving for work very soon (one way trip 8.5 miles), maybe today will be the day i time all 25 lights :P on my drive to work... i usually have no hope because its mostly uphill and people are on the streets (best try was 51 mpg). When it gets dark by the time i'm done my shift, the streets should be cleared and I should have no problems hoping scoring a 60 mpg (best try was 65 mpg?) on my way back well if I don't get greedy that is... (accelerating to a light only to find it turning red on you
**** you Larry!!! i'll learn the secrets soon enough :P i'll edit my post for my numbers when i get back from my work 10 hours later.
bleh 46.9 mpg there 8.3 miles and 48 mpg back at 8.6 miles for a total of 47.5 mpg bleh
one would think nighttime its easier to get better mileage but for some odd reason the weather just made my engine worked a lot harder... by the time it was nighttime temps dropped by at least 5 degrees C which is enough to make some what a difference when cold starting.

Re: Tuesday 8/22/06
Last night I was so worried about the cold that I plugged the engine block heater in and it certainly made a difference today. I decided to make my usual 4.3 mile drive to school in preparation for when I have to go at 7 am in traffic next month. I managed a decent 85.3 mpg round trip, but then went looking for an ideal P&G road around here. Still haven't found one, but there was a nice 2.1 mile stretch (both ways) just over 150.0 mpg.
Tomorrow I will be out looking for another 150 stretch, hopefully if the school lot is open I can hold it for 5 miles or more.
