Driving to save gas
"It is a brand new term. In fact, I've only heard it a couple of times." - Rick Bickford of the AAA
Lindsay Patterson - KJRH.com – Nov 12, 2008
Let's hope more people understand what hyper-miling is before rushing to judgement, then describe us as the countless aggressive/reckless drivers we see. Commentable article. -- Ed.
What if saving money on gas wasn't about finding the lowest price, but rather how you drive. Hypermilers say there are things you can do while driving that can increase your gas mileage and save you a bundle at the pump.
Ally Thomas spends a lot of time in her car. That's why she traded her old car in for a more fuel efficient one. Now when she fills up she knows the gas will go further and save her money. But like many others, she wants to do more to save on gas. That is why the hype has revved up for hypermiling… [Read More]

Ah, the obligatory "don't draft behind a semi" as if people not already marked by Darwin didn't already know better.

Re: Driving to save gas
Well, hey, something worded that way *and* having input from
someone from AAA finally hit the streets. This shows promise.
.
English doesn't appear to be the article author's first language,
which makes it read a little weird...

Lt. Brown says, "If you look on the tire there is a PSI, pounds per square inch, and that will tell you exactly what you need for the recommended tire."
|
Its interesting they put this in there. The only pressure listed on the tire is max PSI. I know this is not what the AAA advocates for proper pressure. It is what I use.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I'm sure the three A's will have a mild fit when they read that, and there's no way to know if he meant to say "look at the door jamb and there is a PSI...", or if it was a Freudian slip as he revealed what he does with his own cars.
The tires shops will have fits, too, since the sidewall-max'd tires will last twice as long and cut into their revenue stream.
