Toyota Prius Coupe Coming
Toyota Prius Coupe Coming!!!
By Mike Connor - Motor Trend - Nov. 10, 2008
Toyota is dedicated to furthering the model selection of their proven hybrid technology! -- Ed.
Toyota is developing a range of Priuses that will include a small pickup based on the 2008 A-BAT concept and a sporty, 2+2 coupe to compete with Honda's upcoming CRZ hybrid coupe.
The Prius coupe will have a lower roofline than that of the all-new 2010 Prius hatchback sedan launching this year and will share its powertrain.
The 2010 Prius sedan's battery technology ... [Read More]

I would love to see what the pickup based on the A-BAT concept may look like! :-)

Re: Toyota Prius Coupe Coming
Hi Wayne!
It's pretty slick! As soon as I can find a good image, I'll have a new avatar.
Here is a link to pics of the A-BAT.

Re: Toyota Prius Coupe Coming
As long as the new coupe is designed for FE and not power I'm looking forward to it. I kinda doubt that this is the way they'll go though.

Re: Toyota Prius Coupe Coming
My prediction is it will be a Prius "Solara." Basically the same thing as the regular Prius but with two doors and a cramped rear seat. FE within 5% of each other. Coupe might be marginally better due to a couple hundred less pounds? Just basing this on the drawing of the green coupe, and thinking about how the market is so dismal, R&D costs for anything more might be prohibitive, especially if they are really moving forward with the A-BAT. The current Camry Solara also has a convertible variant, so making a Prius Solara convertible might be a third option (R&D side). As the new Prius will also be made in North America, all the additional variants make even more sense, at least to me! Sell the coupe for the price of the Honda Insight, and the convertible as an upmarket $30k+ version...
Interesting note on Scion in the article too, sounds like the new xB has been more trouble than its worth for them.

Re: Toyota Prius Coupe Coming
I hope you're right about the convertible edition. We got rid of an Absolutely Red Solara convertible for the Prius. My wife will be happy!

Re: Toyota Prius Coupe Coming
I fear Toyota is going to run into the same problem they have with the XRS. As much as they call it a sports compact most performance buyers don't see it as one.
Same will happen to the Prius coupe. Especially if it's just a Prius engine stuck in a more sleek skin. Sure some adventurous middle aged buyers and younger females might love it but I don't think its even going to make the radar on lists with the CRZ.
