Hi All:

___There is a story here given a little over 1,050 miles at 69.2 mpgUS in what I believe is a Peugeot 308 w/ the 1.6L diesel but I don’t know what else it says? I think it might be written in either French or an African language. Anyone want to take a shot at a translation if it makes sense to do a news item?

Nouveau record de consommation pour la 308 1689,7 km parcours avec un plein en Afrique du Sud

Le 15 octobre dernier, la 308 berline 1,6 HDi bvm6 a battu un nouveau record en Afrique du Sud, en parcourant 1 689,7 km avec un seul plein. Elle a ainsi effectué, avec une consommation moyenne de 3,4 l/100 km, le Coast2Coast Challenge reliant la ville de Kleinzee (sur la côte ouest de l’Afrique du Sud, au nord de Cape Town), à la ville de Umhlanga, proche de Durban, sur la côte est.

Peugeot a relevé le défi du Coast2Coast Challenge pour démontrer l’efficacité environnementale de la 308. Peugeot a également choisi de placer ce challenge sous le signe de la neutralité carbone. C’est ainsi que Peugeot s’est engagé à planter le nombre d’arbres correspondant au carbone émis lors de ce challenge. L’estimation est faite par l’Association Global Carbon Exchange et les arbres seront plantés sur le site d’Orange Farm, au sud de Johannesburg.

Symboliquement, les pilotes ont d’ailleurs planté un arbre après avoir passé la ligne d’arrivée.
Cette désormais fameuse 308 Coast2coast sera exposée sur le stand Peugeot du salon de Johannesburg du 30 octobre au 9 novembre 2008.
