Electro-Metro video

Hello!

Here is the latest video on my Geo Metro to electric conversion.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alNMCjPTwNE

The entire conversion is pretty well covered on another fuel economy forum, but the visual Cliff's Notes are the various videos I have been making and posting on YouTube

Go HERE to see the directory of EV videos I have.

Re: Electro-Metro video

I've seen your videos. You have an electric "unmotor"cycle and a Citicar too. That bike is a great idea. I also like this video of the electric motor build: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QM-c1s5TqjM

What is the cost of conversion for motor, parts, and fabrication? Have you started selling conversion plans or complete kits? - Dale

Re: Electro-Metro video

The whole Electro-Metro conversion comes to right around $1200, including buying the car in the first place, and subtracting out money I got back from selling the gas tank, radiator, etc.

No, I am not selling kits or anything, but am doing everything I can to encourage people to save gas, and sell them on the merits of renewable energy.

When the car is charging at my house, all the power comes from biogas, wind, and hydro-power, NOT Nuke, oil, or coal.

I am planning on making a new web page sometime soon for ALL my transportation projects, renewable energy, and other positive alternatives.

If you want more info on my Motorcycle (not Engine-cycle!), you can still go to my old, slapped-together web-site:

Re: Electro-Metro video

That is amazing that you could build an electric car so cheaply.
I'm impressed by that and you supply your own electricity. Way cool!!!
How do you find the parts? Do you have a parts list available or could you make a scrounge list for me to get started for car and bike? What are some good books to reference?

I would guess if I wanted to build an EV, a motorcycle would be a good start to get the basics without alot of cost, will most motorcycle frames work? What would you look out for or do differently since you've already built one?

Did the machinist make your motor/tranny spacer manually or did they program that part on a CNC machining center for your electrometro?

Sorry for all the questions, I just see the potential in a homemade EV as too exciting to just comment on and not want to make one for myself. - Dale

Re: Electro-Metro video

Hey Dale,

Yep, making electric vehicles is a lot of fun!

I don't actually make my own electricity, (I have poor access to solar and wind energy) rather, I buy it through my power utiltiy, which is technically a co-op of municipalities.

I pay $3 a month extra to get my electricity through them, over powerlines, from a windmill and biogas plant.

A motorcycle or bicycle is a great place to get started working on an EV. It's simple and easy to work on.

The Metro is really my third EV project after an electric bicycle conversion and the electric motorcycle.
