Welcome to the Technical discussion forum ...

Hi All:

___Let me introduce to you the CleanMPG Technical discussion forum. Having watched the Prius I and II folks in the YaHoo - Prius Tech forum as well as the Insight’ers over at IC take their automobiles to new heights via technical discovery; I thought it appropriate to create a forum such as this. I am just as much interested in that discovery as I am with the details about the how’s and why’s our automobiles work the way they do and with that, I hope some find this forum worthy of their time.

___Good Luck

___Wayne

Thanks for the forum. It seems discussion of mods has been outlawed over across the street.

Huh. Oh, well. Personally I would like to get more into the technical side of FE, particularly with respect to the Insight. It's such a mileage monster that there has to be some benefit to knowing how it does its thing, even for someone who doesn't own one.

Re: Welcome to the Technical discussion forum ...

All, I will say publically is the worst thing a forum can do is let a member become a solid member of the community, then cancel a very active thread, that person's membership, or both for no good reason. Killing a thread like MIMA at that forum runs off members that were interested in that topic and makes other members worry if their posts will be allowed.

I think this accurately articulates the policy of the CleanMPG's founders :
  • Provide a positive atmosphere by pruning out spammers, trollers, rude and vulgar people, other disruptive people that wish to be a killjoy for our members that wish to pursue better fuel economy. Some admins philosophy of letting anyone do anything sometimes seems like letting the cats into a bird sanctuary. I call that a corruption of free expression....
  • Not go to the other extreme of worrying our good members with numerous prohibitions like no redundant topics, no environmentally related topics, no off-topics, no related topics, no vehicle mods.... A forum is supposed to be fun. Good members like Mike D should not be treated like trollers. If you feel like it requires a lawyer to determine if a post is acceptable, that forum's management has a problem.

Re: Welcome to the Technical discussion forum ...

Thanks for the incourageing words.
I am not banned from the site or anything like that, they just feel uncomfortable about discussing MIMA. It would seem that some of the other mods could potentially be as much of a concern reguarding warrantys, so I am not quite sure why MIMA has been chosen as the example.
AI was told that a letter or e-mail was going to be sent to honda by one of the moderators asking for their opinion about MIMA and warranty, so the answer to that letter may be behind this? I thought that a letter like that was bad judgement, and could only have one answer.

Go with the flow is my motto, so I will make the necessary adjustments to my path, and keep on pluging. (into the grid and my solar panels)

Re: Welcome to the Technical discussion forum ...

Mike,

First of all, welcome to CleanMPG!

I'd have to agree about them contacting Honda - what were they thinking? When I've had the Honda dealerships do my oil, they NEVER use Mobil One, even though it's been on the market for 30 years and never hurt my 1988 CRX HF or my Insight. If Honda is reluctant to use synthetic motor oil, they will not smile on any mods....

I did not mean to imply you had been banned, but locking that MIMA thread is still a pretty serious slap in the face. I'd prefer the initial post just have a disclaimer "do at your own risk...".

I just happened to be lurking and saw the thread on the MIMA thread being locked. I let Wayne and Tom know and they agreed this was definitely over-moderating and to set things up in the event you decide to resume a MIMA thread here.

I just can't imagine the moderators and admins that closed your MIMA thread enjoying participating a forum if they were on the receiving end of their administration. That could come off as a vicious statment towards them, but it's because they seriously need to address their problem of over-moderating....

Re: Welcome to the Technical discussion forum ...

I am not anxious to start another forum, it is a lot of work to do it correctly, and to set up all the nice little goodies like
If the type of discussions that we were having at IC would fit within CleanMPG's "rules", I would rather move here than work with the present form of the 99MPG forum.
What do you think?
