Another 6% improvement on 2nd tank!

Filled the tank today and realize my mileage increase to 31.73MPG~~ this is like a 13.5% improvement to my originally 28 MPG, or 6% more to my gain in the first Eco-driving tank.

I didn't do anything specific in addition to my effort in the first tank
http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15858

I guess the 6% gain this time is due to:

- better use of DWB and DWL
- improved grill block which has a smoother shape and lighter weight?
- More efficient engine using 95 octane petrol

Another important factor would be:

My last 80km driving was on one of those "temporary tires" you would see on a Japanese car... it's unfortunate that I had a nail puncture on one of my front tire last week and replace the wheel with the spare cheap looking temporary tire, which is only 125mm in width! (compare to my other 195mm wheels)

It reduces the rolling resistance so largely that I can easily feel the difference when coasting. I guess one can achieve 35MPG+ easily by using 4 of those temporary tires.....(it would be quite dangerous though...)

-------------

What worries me this morning is that when I arrived my workplace, I opened the hood and feels like I am facing a oven fan....it is so hot in the engine room....and neither of my two fans is spinning! it is normal?

My temp gauge doesn't seem to report any over-heating, but I swear I smell some plastic this morning....

I am considering reduce the grill block from 75% to 50%, any thought?

oh, and my idling RPM was like 800 before, it is only 600 now...... is it due to the grill block/hot air?

My grill block

before

after

upper grill: invisible plastic block from the rear.

Lower grill. 1 small hole fabric mesh + 1 large hole plastic mesh from the front and 1 small hole medal mesh from the rear.

Interesting idea using the mesh. I like it. The tape not so much but mesh I like.
Maybe you could bend it so it fits snugly into the opening, using maybe some wire form behind to hold it. The mesh could look nice if fitted properly. And it a nice option to a full grill block. I’d bet you could get 80% block with some nice looking mesh.
if your thinking of reducing the block maybe go with the mesh up top also?

I am thinking of possibly a fully blocked grill for the winter. I think next summer, I will look into something like your Mesh. thank for the idea!

Good question about the idle speed. I bet is due to the warmer engine.

Thanks for the post’s
