Insight CVT Problem
A friend recently had his 01 Insight with 165,000 miles tuned-up. Shortly after it started missing and the transmission started growling. It threw a code (didn't have the number) that showed "all cylinders misfiring." I would like to think that the shop knocked a vacuum line or electrical lead off and caused this. It was a local "reputable" independent shop. He is about 150 miles away so phone info is all I have.
He took it to a Honda dealer in St. Louis and they changed the fluid in the trans. They said metal particles were in the oil. They also said the misfire codes were caused by the transmission problems???
Has anyone had similar problems?
Has anyone had CVT repairs under warranty or the recall?

Re: Insight CVT Problem
They weren't worried about where in the trans the metal particles came from? And whether that part might need replacement?

Re: Insight CVT Problem
Don't the plugs in that car need to be indexed? Could that cause the misfire?

Re: Insight CVT Problem
Yes, they want to replace it. They will give him a 10% discount and the price would only be $4323. He is searching for a used one.

Re: Insight CVT Problem
I stressed to check and make sure the proper plugs were in it. The Honda shop surely checked them. I don't believe they would misfire. The efficiency would be affected though.

And people worry about the cost of replacement batteries??? I recall that Honda knocked the price for Insight (and Civic?) hybrid batteries down to $1500-$2000 recently?

Re: Insight CVT Problem
Honda changed their CVT fluid shortly after the CVT Insight's release. If it wasn't changed during the first 165,000 miles... I can see some damage being done.
