Iowa Ethanol Fraud Case
I'm hoping that they start dyeing E85 when it leaves the bulk plant.
"State Lawsuit: Pronto Markets in Sumner and Fairbank Sold
E85 Blended Fuel as Unleaded Regular or 10% Ethanol
Contact Bob Brammer, Attorney General’s Office, 515-281-6699, or
Dustin Vande Hoef, Dept. of Agriculture & Land Stewardship, 515-281-3375
A state consumer-protection lawsuit alleges that Pronto Market gas stations in Sumner and Fairbank, Iowa, “improperly and fraudulently” sold E85 blended ethanol fuel as either unleaded regular gasoline or 10% ethanol-blend fuel."

Re: Iowa Ethanol Fraud Case
Don't they already dye it? Kerosene is, AvGas is, everything but straight MoGas is dyed IIRC.

Not that I'm aware of--no wikipedia reference to ethanol dyeing in wikipedia either. AFAIK in the US the dyes mainly indicate which taxes have been paid -- undyed fuel indicating that it paid road taxes.
I'm pretty sure I've seen people cross-run dyed fuels on the highway. I'd like to see dyes protect the consumer not just the tax man.

Re: Iowa Ethanol Fraud Case
Even if they did dye it, the way I pump it (1st click) I would never see the color from the pump into my tank.

Re: Iowa Ethanol Fraud Case
Maybe there will come to be a market in clear plastic adapters
to go between tank filler and fuel nozzle, so the consumer can
visually inspect what he's pumping at first, and then stop and
remove the adapter to finish the fill [so the "full" sensor works
right].
.
Naah, we could never trust people with proper procedure using
something like that... they'd pump the whole tank through it
and likely spill lots of excess on the ground.

Re: Iowa Ethanol Fraud Case
I'd be satisfied with a glass porthole just before the nozzle handle.

A couple of Nebraska station were selling E-10 as regular gas. The state is looking into other that might also be doing the same thing.
