Tire Life Survey

I just replaced the tires on my wifes Accord. They had 92k miles on them. I checked the tire pressure regularly and kept them at 32 psi. I've read a bunch of posts on tire's lasting longer if you put more air in them(max sidewall) but I am still skeptical. (35 years of old habbits are hard to break)

I thought a survey with actual mileage might help me change my old ways.

Please take 30 seconds to participate. Results will be posted here.

Thanks,

Re: Tire Life Survey

I just made my input. You you haven't seen this already, here a poll done here a few months ago on PSI alone...
http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10881

PS - I recently upped mine to 50 PSI (max sidewall is 44)

Re: Tire Life Survey

Our mileage is low and getting lower, so I can only give my impression:

Since jacking up psi and reducing average speed & agressiveness, I can no longer detect wear. Before, life stunk (40Mish) and middle of tread was wasted.

Tacoma has 44M with original tires. Should do 60M. Guesstimate 90M if had inflated properly the first 5 years of its life. Now at 35psi (max sidewall).

Good point about how slowing down can increase tire life. Wonder if flying around corners the way I do now is gonna wear out the outside though!

John, It has not the case for folks doing this the longest, like Wayne himself. I suspect a slight increase in center wear above max PSI may offset the increased outer wear via "death turns", but most folks here don't think there is any tendancy for center wear.

By the way, there is a wealth of knowledge on zillions of threads from the past, so I recommend also doing searches, because virtually every imaginable issue has been addressed before many times over. Good luck!

Yes, I have done many searches here on this excellent forum and I thought a survey would be a good place to get real life stats on one page.
