Texas: We have a driver on the road in a FE Challenge as I type…

Hi All:

___Just to let everyone know, there is a lady by the name of Jennie Chen who is currently in an 08 Honda CRV going up against a local TV host in another CRV from Austin to Houston, Texas. Her CRV was setup this morning, her ScanGauge was setup a few hours ago and both Dan and I have given her as much training by phone as we possibly could. After her last 1 mile segment phone clinic, she was pulling 40.0 mpg in a reasonable Steady state DWL/DWB cruise and headed back to the launch point so they could start their Challenge drive. I have no idea where she is now but hopefully we will hear back from her about the results before the day is out.

___Good Luck

___Wayne

This is quite exciting! I'm very interested in hearing how this turns out. Good luck to her and hopefully the "Green light gods" are on her side!

My wife has an 07 CR-V. If you keep the highway speeds between 50 & 60 mph it's quite easy to maintain 30+mpg. However, increase that speed to above 60 and watch the mpg tumble to low twenties or high teens.

Go Jennie! This is probably going to be a 7 hour challenge, and we have a Hurricane closing on Houston as I type. It's not scheduled to get really hairy until tomorrow so I'm hoping the worse she gets is a few showers. Bad news is if it rains, it's hard to ventilate the car. It's still holding in the high 80's to low 90's here even with cloud coverage. I got a IM from her last night that she told the camera man riding with her that it's gonna be steamy and he's just gonna have to deal with it .

This is excellent! I'm really looking forward to the results -- I've been enjoying her posts around here.

Re: Texas: We have a driver on the road in a FE Challenge as I type…

Hi All:

___I just received a call from Jennie and she was having a little trouble as she was seeing her iFCD displaying in the low to mid 20 mpg range for a bit. I suspect she had a little longer climb than she may have thought so I simply requested that she move to CC. We checked the setup again and her 2.4L ICE is still a 2.4L ICE Her iFCD came back up immediately and she is now taking CC off during slight climbs and bringing it back online for the fall and flats.

2008 Honda CRV Austin to Houston Challenge Stats

Miles from launchChallenge FE - mpgUS
5034.1
5535.9

___I think we can get her back over 40 before she makes Houston so everyone hold your collective breathes and wish her the best!!!

___Can anyone help pull up an elevation topo/elevation profile? I am pulling the Route map up and will get it posted ASAP.

___Good Luck

___Wayne

Re: Texas: We have a driver on the road in a FE Challenge as I type…

She's got a 650 ft climb in elevation to Austin. At 55 miles in she's about 150 ft into the climb. Coming back should be smooth sailing.

Oh, that's who's doing this. I hadn't connected the two names.

Go Jennie!
