GM in talks with Hummer dealers to buy out stores: report
In addition to looking to shed Hummer, GM is increasing production of some of its popular cars and cutting back on truck production as part of plans to cut costs by $10 billion.
Soyoung Kim - Rueters - July 28, 2008
DETROIT (Reuters) - General Motors Corp is in negotiations with Hummer dealers to buy out stores as it looks to sell the SUV brand whose popularity has plunged amid high gas prices, Automotive News reported on Monday.
The No. 1 U.S. automaker, which has said it is considering "all options" for Hummer including the sale of the brand, also paid out performance-linked bonuses to dealers in advance, the paper quoted several Hummer dealers as saying.
"Hummer is quietly getting dealers to sign off on their stores and making deals with each one," Tim Kelly, a Hummer dealer in Chattanooga, Tenn, told the paper.
GM Chief Executive Rick Wagoner said on Friday GM has heard from some bidders interested in buying Hummer and was moving as quickly as it could toward a sale

Maybe Chrysler will buy Hummer. It fits their image. Yeah, a Hemi Hummer will sell like mad.

Re: GM in talks with Hummer dealers to buy out stores: report
RAMMER is great stuff! I know several rednecks personally here in Texas that would buy one. They claim they'll never buy a "girly little car" no matter how high gas prices go. Odds are these people who buy trucks right now will get a government "gasoline bailout" at some point because they will be "suffering the injustice of high gasoline bills".

Re: GM in talks with Hummer dealers to buy out stores: report
The Hummer would be perfect it if was turned into a new ultra high net worth truck.
Load it with options and leather, give it the biggest baddest engine they can fit, and then sell it at $80,000 - $120,000 USD. Only at select dealers in Las vegas, South FL, New Jersey, NYC, etc. Instant icon brand. Oh Yah I got money baby and I got 8 mpg city too! Money to burnnnnnn!!!!
Heck if gas hits $10 per gallon and everyone puts around in tiny EV cars then the Hummer would become the ultimate indulgence. And it would probably sell very well offered as that sort of toy.

Old Hummers never die. They just get rebranded to upscale markets.

@GreenVTEC
I agree. I have said that many times on other forums.
The hummer could fit in well with the jeep brand, and be for jeep what the viper is for dodge. But honestly GM would be better off doing that themselves, just build a gmc hummer, and make it like the corvette for chevy.

I know there are good artists out there, but the Rammer would be something like a lifted Dodge Ram on the chassic and width of an H1.
