New Member - Hybrid Tahoe
Does a Chevy Tahoe Hybrid 4WD belong here? I guess I'll find out in a hurry! My company builds mobile communications vehicles for emergency responders so I decided to build one on the Tahoe Hybrid platform to see if we could offer a better fuel mileage alternative for law enforcement and other emergency responders.
My Tahoe has internet on-the-move, wireless access inside the vehicle, a radio "bridge" to connect up to 12 radios operating on different bands and frequencies, a satellite phone, four cameras and live, streaming video from all four cameras (in a quad-screen) available via the internet while the vehicle is moving. This is also my personal vehicle, my daily driver, and I pay the fuel bill. The Tahoe replaced a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder with a V-6 engine that got 14 - 16 mpg around town.
I just broke 4000 miles on the Tahoe. If I "baby" it I can get the advertised 20 mpg around town (so far 20.3 -20.5 mpg). My one and only road trip from Huntsville, AL to Orlando, FL and back netted 22.0 mpg going south and 22.5 mpg coming back north, with cruise control set at 75 mph on the interstate (most of the route). On the way south I went 525 miles on the first tank of gas - Huntsville to just north of Gainesville, FL. I know I don't sound like a hypermiler, but so far I see I'm already adopting a few of the techniques I'm reading about in the forums. Sunday I pulled my 3500 lb boat/trailer for the first time, about 40 miles to the water and back. It only dropped my tank average mpg from 20.5 to 19.5. That trip used to knock about 4 mpg off my Pathfinder mileage. So far the Tahoe is delivering as advertised. Is it worth it? It will be if we sell some as alternatives for emergency response!

Welcome !
Heavy Metal Driver's are encouraged to show what they can do versus the EPA. Its all about % over EPA.
Check out the 3 mth run mileage log - there is a member with a 4x4 that in 2nd place in the B class - he is getting something on order of 150% of EPA.

Re: New Member - Hybrid Tahoe
cool truck, i didn't know they were out yet...gas mileage is not bad for doing 75mph in a huge SUV! i bet just dropping 10 mph on the highway will give you a few more MPGs, easy 25+MPG HWY

Does a Chevy Tahoe Hybrid belong here?

I like to think all are welcome here whether you drive a hybrid or a Hummer. Although you will receive a proper ribbing for hypermiling a Hummer.
Seriously, welcome to the club.
You should start by reading the article “Beating the EPA”. Also consider purchasing a ScanGaugeII. It is an invaluable source of information and will quickly pay for itself in fuel savings.
However, please be careful as hypermiling is addictive.

Re: New Member - Hybrid Tahoe
I am so glad you are here. I wanted to see what someone could do with one of those.
I'd love to see what kind of mpgs you'd get if you maxed out at say 62 mph.

Re: New Member - Hybrid Tahoe
Welcome HybridC3I
If you're interested in getting better FE, you're welcome here no matter what you drive
I'm personally interested in hearing how you do with your Tahoe, because if Ford doesn't get their act together (& GM keeps their promises ), my next vehicle may be a 2-mode hybrid (&maybe plug-in) VUE.
Does that make me a traitor?

But of course! Anyone who wants to improve their MPG is welcome here, so read up, try out the methods, and ask questions. Good luck to you!

Re: New Member - Hybrid Tahoe
I don't have a scangauge yet but I find it hard to believe that it would provide more info than the gauges that are built right into that Tahoe.

Re: New Member - Hybrid Tahoe
Welcome to CMPG!
Sound like you are on the right track!
I am closely watching how some of you Tahoe owners do for Hypermiling.
I've heard they can be good for 30mpg or more on the highway in the right circumstances. We shall see.
I wish you well!
