Performance chips?

Has anyone tried the performance chips that are available? I found one that costs $25 and garantees 20+ MPG increase by using this chip. It's from redline performance. I think it's worth a try for my Honda Del Sol because my current power band starts at 4000 RPM and I never go there exept in an emergency. I'll report on my results.

See if this link works.

Re: Performance chips?

I hope their return policy is good because I doubt Honda would have left 20MPG on the table.

Re: Performance chips?

I really doubt you'll see any benefit. You're welcome to try. If you do, please report the results to us.

Most performance chips increase high-rpm power by using more fuel. Both high rpm and more fuel are the opposite of what you want.

Re: Performance chips?

Yea. as stated before, would honda team of engeniers leave 20 MPG on their cars when a 20 dollar fix would make thier cars sell alot more and there fore bring more prestige and money for the company ?

nope.

some guy on e-bay selling useless snake oil .

yes.

Performance tuning is either expencive, or time consuming, so if it does not fall under any of these, run away.

Re: Performance chips?

I love it--"THIS IS A PICTURE OF OUR CHIP". Uh, looks like a cheap box to me.

"GAIN 20 MPG GUARANTEED" -- then lower down in the FAQ section, "Getting extra MPG is not the intended effect of our chip, though it might happen, don't expect it to".

Conclusion: It's another d--n resistor you splice into the intake air temp sensor wire, just like their "cheap ripoff competitors"...

Re: Performance chips?

This is absolutely worthless for a number of reasons.
1st: There is no Mass Air Flow sensor in the Del Sol.
2md: This is just a resistor in a plastic box that interferes with the signal and makes your MAF think that the air is cooler or warmer (depending on which way you install it) that will either make you run rich or lean. It is snake oil in every sense
3rd: It's way overpriced. If you want to screw yourself over you can do it for $2 instead of $24.

EDIT: You can have your ECU flashed on OBD1 cars, but you need to take the ECU out and send it to Jet Chips or someone like that. It shold cost around $250. Tell them what you want done and they will take care of it.
