Hello I am here to find out methods to improve the milage on mY 1991 Mercedes 300E and my 2006 Fleetwood Deisel pusher Motorhome. The motrhome has a CAT C-9 engine rated at 400 hp and 1150 fp torc. It gets 5.4 mpg now. It has 16,000 miles on it.
I would appreciate any help you could give me. I have a heated shop with tools and am able to do some Maint. and repairs myself.
Thanks
Len

Welcome Len-
First step is to read Wayne's article on Beating the EPA: http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1510
Pump up the tires, slow down, and practice DWL.
And that RV is a giant brick- speed is your enemy. Cruise control is also out. Don't mash the accelerator to get going. Learn how to stay in top gear all the time. Here's what DWL in a large vehicle looks like on large rolling hills- I-75 in KY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llyF3ZnkVNE. 23000#, Cat C-7, Allison 5 spd. Speed ranged from 50-70 mph. 10.358 mpg

Len Grad,
A lot of RV owners have www.scangage.com because it's easier to tell if your fuel economy is improving than the standard dash readout.
Hope that Helps!

Re: New Member
Welcome Len Grad. Thanks for coming to this site. What did you think of that video by Keith?
Since he has figured out how to get over 10 MPG out of his rig, I think that gives you some idea of what your future looks like ( nearly a 100% improvement). Wouldn't that be neat?
Wow Keith! Now, the intro to Hypermiling that he directed you to, is something else. It must be read again and again, and slowly put into practice. Then you will amaze yourself. It is truely possible to recognize a 10% savings with little effort. With more experience, 20% seems pretty easy. What are the EPA listings for your Mercedes? What kind of MPG are you presently getting? What kind of commute do you face?

Re: New Member
Another thing to consider when driving an RV is alternate routes that allow you to drive more efficiently.
