Shiba, after watching the Frontline episode, it's obvious that one particular Texas oilman doesn't get it at all. (Unless his goal all along was to maximize the profits of Texas oilmen?)
Hemi, I disagree. The spokesperson was definitely in a tight spot--her job is speaking for GM, after all!!--and she handled the situation with humor and at least a little intelligence. The "obviously not you" crack was a joke, and played on the "Tappet Brothers" somewhat rough sense of humor. (Did you notice the unending mountain of affectionate grief they kept throwing at each other?) Which was a very good way of deflecting the question and not answering it.
After all, we all know that nobody
needs 500 HP. But there are quite a number of people who
want 500 HP--more than enough peopel to sell those vehicles at a profit.
