Why high revs in the FEH going up hills?

My dad's FEH, actually a Mariner, when we go on trips revs to 4 thousand RPM on inclines in cruise control, and has for the life of the car. If I hit coast on the CC two or three times the engine sustains about 2400 RPM, but has anyone else experienced this problem in an FEH? This happens anywhere from 50 mph and higher.

Does anyone have any insight?

Re: Why high revs in the FEH going up hills?

Hi vwharlequin,

Although I don't own an FEH ( I have a HCHII), I'm pretty sure that if you take any car in cruise control up a hill the rpms will shoot up pretty high to maintain speed if the incline is steep enough. My HCHII would easily go above 3000rpm going up an incline in cruise if I didn't use the decel button to bring down the cruise speed. Especially when going up a hill in cruise, the car wants to increase rpms more than increase the amount of assist. You should either not use assist going up the incline or hit the decel button to bring down the rpms.

-Bill

*edit: It seems like you are already using the coast button (same as decel on the HCHII) to bring down the rpms, thats a good way to keep the rpms down if you are using cruise. What you are observing is normal.
