Hello from Riverside
Hey everyone. I am quite enjoying this forum and learning new tips and tricks. Hoping to achieve or surpass some outstanding FE numbers reported on this site (I know it will require some hard work, but I am ready for it).

Re: Hello from Riverside
BEWARE: Learning these tips and trips will CHANGE you!
How does it change you?
Example: last week I had to take my 1999 dodge ram 1500 on a 360 mile trip. I normally drive my 2008 prius 99% of the time. So there I am working on saving gas and I didn't even realize I was doing it. And of course on a truck that gets bad mileage already I was trying to get the best I could.
I found myself using several techniques most of which just weren't the same. But on the upside. On the trip normally I would not have been able to do it on a single tank, I did it with 1/8th of a tank to spare.
But I tell you the whole time I felt bad taking the truck at all but I was picking up a truckload of stuff and had no choice.
I HAVE BEEN ASSIMILATED!

Re: Hello from Riverside
Thanks for the encouragement. Actually, I have been trained to use most of these techniques as a professional driver long time back in Russia. Back then constant use of brakes was just a bad bad driving. When I came to US and got automatic transmission car, well, I just got lazy. Now, with the price of gas and the whole oil/pollution mess these techniques slowly making more and more sense. So, I am back on the wagon trying to drive like one suppose to drive - no rapid changes in speed, rolling towards the lights (saving not only gas but brake pads as well), speeding up on the downhill and using that momentum for the uphill clime. It is a win/win. I hope to relearn it and stick with it just like you did no matter what I drive.

Re: Hello from Riverside
Hello and welcome to the club.
You should start by knowing your car’s EPA rating located at FuelEconomy.gov and make sure to read the article “Beating the EPA”.
Also, make sure you air your tires up to the maximum pressure indicated on the tire’s sidewall and consider purchasing a ScanGaugeII. It is an invaluable source of information and will quickly pay for itself in fuel savings.
However, please be careful as hypermiling is addictive.

Re: Hello from Riverside
Thanks. I already ordered ScanGauge. In terms of EPA's ratings, which numbers are you suggesting on using when setting up your vehicle in the User CP - estimated new MPG or official MPG?

Re: Hello from Riverside
Whatever came on the window sticker is what is used on the mileage logs.
