Re: Hello!

Welcome on the cleanmpg site.

I'am kind of newbie also. However, my suggestions are practice the techniques one after the other. Don't try to do everything the same day. The first improvement is good but the tank after tank improvement is very stimulating.

Read and read again on this site. You will learn a lof of thing.

Re: Hello!

Welcome! It's great to see a fresh driver interested in FE instead of the horsepower game. Keep this stuff in mind and your driving career will not only be more efficient but a heck of a lot safer than the average 17 year old! Just stick to the basic stuff while you're learning and you'll do great.

Re: Hello!

Thanks for the advice folks. Update already.

Went to school today, drove up mind you. I engaged the P&G techniques at places where it was certainly useful. But about 10 mins from the school, I thought about the idea that many Prius people do with P&G, they dont exactly coast, they let their foot off the pedal and minimally apply pressure as this extends and the deacceleration doesnt seem too obvious to other drivers and saves work. I put this to use and this very gently applied pressure on the throttle, and FE numbers like 45, 50, 36, 30, 64 mpg showed up...and she still kept on going...about 30 mph! I'mma call this the "magic" spot!

it was about 1,200 rpm on the tach. with CC on its usually at 1400 rpm...200 rpms make all the difference in FE with such a big rig with a huge engine in 'er.

Hey folks, how are you doing? I'm currently in high school right now. Just thought I'd post a recent update.

I make the regular commute to school every day (11.5 km). and it's all pretty much flat on the way, with one super-steep incline to go down and one to go up over. On the flats I usually get 'er up to 60 km/h, and then keep reducing throttle until my IFCD displays 30+ mpg. And holds 'er there, she goes a nice ways too at that much throttle, and the folks behind me don't seem to mind much. If I wish to accelerate under circumstance, I put the rpms up to 1500 and she'll eventually pick up. From start-up position coming out of a residental driveway, I raises rpms to 2000. In stop and go traffic, I DWB.

Filled 'er up yesterday half way point, and now im gonna start logging the mileages with the trip odometer and reset the average FE.

Any tips or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Hello!

Sounds like you are off to a good start. Do you really have to go up to 2000 rpms when you go out of the residental driveway?
