Re: Siphon 1998 Suburban tank-44 gals-Issac

08Escape- sure that would work- but I would probably attempt to do it cleaner ,so I could half ass repair/seal the hole-especially since it would be my own vehicle
Certainly wouldn't do it on some pricy brand-MB BMW
But little chance I'll be driving on of them in the new future
Unless Herm's candidate gets elected and the trickle down becomes a Biblical Event!

Herm
President Obama tanking was actually a very clever trick.
His base was being told the election was "over"
what with the "47% remark"
Very clever Dems decided he should tank ,so his 47%ers would be terrified of the Romney surge and actually turn out.
Yeah-I fully expect Biden to continue the deception

Speaking as a reformed underground storage tank decommissioner --it's all about the flammable range of the vapors above liquids. I was always much more confident cutting a full fuel line than an empty one. Sealed gasoline storage tanks that are significantly full will have vapors that are too rich to burn. If you were worried about excessive ventilation of the vapor space above the fluid you could just punch/drill holes below fluid level. If you're draining diesel there generally isn't much to worry about unless you're using an open flame or making a lot of heat. (Just the same I always used my vapor meter before cutting a diesel tank.)

Re: Siphon 1998 Suburban tank-44 gals-Issac

I usually pour the "old watered gas" into an old steel pan-and light it off.
Yeah-Occasionally I'll toss the match at it-and it puts the match out.
I usually make a paper torch-stand upwind-light the torch-toss it.
If you watch closely-you see it light off well above the surface.

Yeah if I ever punch/drill a tank- it will be at the low point-even though it might be easier to repair a hole punched above the fluid-(siphon)-then seal the hole

Oh well-with any luck I won't be punching holes in gas tanks.
Charlie
