Allow myself to introduce ... myself
Found this forum while searching the web for help in calibrating my ScanGauge II in my 2009 Jetta Sportswagen TDI.
I'm always looking for hints on improving fuel economy. I already drive at 90Km on most highways for example, but I'm always hoping to eek out a little better thatn the 7 l/100 Km average I have achieved over the last three years.

Welcome to CleanMPG. Where are you located? The TDIs are really good highway cars and you should easily be able to improve on 7L/100km. What is your typical commute like? It's rare for me to see consumption so high in my car even with a leadfoot taking it for a spin. Be sure to check out the article "The how's and why's to hypermile" if you haven't already. And unfortunately, I don't think the ScanGauge can be calibrated for the new TDIs yet, it has something to do with how the ECU reports the data that the SG does not deal with.

LinearLogic now has a dedicated diesel version and I guess the OP has that.

Re: Allow myself to introduce ... myself
I'm located in Halifax, NS. My daily commute is about 90 Km round trip - all highway. I typically set the cruise to 90 KPH. The killer is those days where I have to drop off my car pool crew at their homes. It's amazing how about 5 Km of city driving can reduce fuel economy for entire trip after driving almost 100 Km all highway.
The Diesel version of the ScanGauge is made for big diesels - RVs and Semis, not my little Jetta wagon.
The SG on my car is kind of close, it just sucks to see the SG report 6.5 l/100 Km and then when I work out the numbers it is actually closer to 6.8 or even 6.9. I'll be getting it upgraded to the latest Firmware in a couple of weeks so I'll probably have to recalibrate from scratch again. Perhaps that'll help.
Mind you on a long trip I can eak out almost 1,000 Km out of a tank. The closest I ever came was 997 Km. I was just too tired at the end of that day to drive around the 3 Km needed to break 1,000.

Are there many stops along your highway commute? Setting the cruise at 90 should easily give better than 5L/100km. Which transmission do you have? And make sure to keep those tires pumped up if they aren't already!

No stops at all once on the highway (1.5 Km from my home). A bit hilly and a general climb to work and a general descent back home. I have the automatic DSG transmission - the wife cannot drive a standard. I can easily get a trip economy of 5 to 5.5 l/100Km one way. Even a little city driving once home just sucks the fuel out of her.
The average of my last 10 fill ups has run about 6 to 6.5 but that includes a fair number of long range (900 Km) round trips. Economy has improved over the three years I've had the car. I should monitor tire pressure closer though.
