Re: Hypertech E-con opinions?

^F that. I have a Twin Turbo 6spd manual 335i BMW that is mod'd up pretty damn good. (not DD). I'm running a Vishnu Procede computer system and the MPG's are great. I'm pushing over 400HP. On pump 93 gas. Car averages about 25-29mpg driving "normal" with a/c on around town and some hwy. Stock the car had 300hp, run-flat tires, and got 25-29mpg. So I'm running an extra 100hp and haven't given up jack on MPG until I hammer it. Stock the factory does a good job on 98/100 things. Reliability, cost to them, tard-proof etc. I wanted to know if anyone actually has run the E-con on their car and has FIRST HAND experience with it. But yes I appreicate and respect factory OEM parts. It's usually the best items that will not leave you on the side of the road and are not some chincy quality part. BUT, there are exceptions. A $300 plug'n play tune is pretty tard-proof. The tune may actually advance the timing more than the factory curve, it may adjust the Vtec or whatever... but if it bumps 1mpg "on average" it's worth it. Or if you run 93 and get more % mileage than the cost % it's worth it. That's why most european cars run 91+ fuel, and average pretty good for what they are. So, I ask again. Has anyone actually ran it on their car.

EDIT: Did some searching around. Looks like the Hypertech programmers only change parameter at near WOT and high RPM's. So it doesn't do jack at low RPM. So that's what you get for a "legal" programmer. Should of seen that coming. So I guess a custom burned SCT would be my only option. And probably not worth it financially.

Re: Hypertech E-con opinions?

I would love to recalibrate the throttle response on my car , to give it more of an "econ" mode. Stock setup is pretty close to an on-off switch. I imagine that any hardware/software mod I can do to get this won't be simple or cheap, though.
James is correct ; the factory does NOT always know what's best.

Re: Hypertech E-con opinions?

back in the 60's, 70's, 80's a good mechanic could improve a vehicles performance simply by adjusting the timing to a persons driving habit and the fuel used-

80's and 90's many vehicles were improved by changing the computer chip-

both of above done because the factory settings had to be for everybody and a good all arround setting for everyone-

why do some of you disbelieve a computer chip or programmer that changes timing and gives more HP & TQ won't improve mileage

granted- many give unrealistic figures-

but-
there are some that work as advertized
you just have to really understand, investigate, find proven results- and instead of calling them all worthless- try one you've reshearched-

Re: Hypertech E-con opinions?

^exactly. My Vishnu on the bmw lets me choose between maps on the fly:

0-Stock
1-Aggressive +1
2-Aggressive +2
3-Turbo's OFF;wastegates held open 100%
4-Methanol map (I don't run meth on my car)

Maps 1 & 3 are great for mpgs. I really like 3 b/c I can really squeze some mpg's so long I'm not in hills and loaded up. Click to map 2 boom, 400+HP. I just wanted to kow if there the E-con worked or not. Guess it doesn't.

Re: Hypertech E-con opinions?

I think it is possible to optimize the engine beyond stock performance along one parameter at the expense of another, but unlikely that you could improve economy and power without taking a hidden hit somewhere else.

The bigger risk is that with only one data point and a totally uncontrolled "study" you will get a false positive once you are financially and emotionally invested.

you make a good point- and many of the so called good ones aren't to good

BUT- I know of a chip that works in the Ford 2008 V6, auto trans- you just have to drive all the time with the thought of fuel mileage- sceptics arround all over- and for good cause- but there are improvements to be made on many stock, perfectly running vehicles without any engine or vehicle mods

back in the day before computers sometimes a simple cam/intake/carb would give more power and mpg- again with the right person behind the wheel

you have to think on the majority of folks who buy vehicles- they are only concerned where they get under the average posted mpg- not with why are they and do they care to change driving habbits- you do have to chuckle on those that get real poor mileage compared to the EPA listing- they seem to be the complainers and most likely always have been and always will

nothing wrong with being a non believer

I think there is someone here who claims to know a dealership where they'll put your vehicle on their dyno and let you see what it says
I'd sure like to know who and where that is- in my travels I think I could justify a trip to get my Escape on it
come back
