Re: CleanMPG Reviews the 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid

Your correct in calling it a electric turbo as it is only 20 hp EV. You have to be very light on the throttle to travel EV and going down hill or on the flats without a head wind! H

Re: CleanMPG Reviews the 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid

What are the steps you use to FAS the Civic Hybrid with the CVT? I am afraid of hurting the transmission. Is this recomended as a strategy for this car?

Re: CleanMPG Reviews the 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid

its fine if you do it right correct me if im wrong even though i've never driven hchIII

shift into N
let rpms idle till it stays stationary
turn the key to IG II (radio)
turn the key back to IGIII (all lights on, before the crank)

coast

when its time (think 10 seconds ahead?)
press the key back to IG IV (crank engine)
the key will auto pop back into IGIII (engine on, lights stay on)
wait 2 seconds?
put back into D

its like driving a manual for the first time, but this time you don't stall much worse can happen if you don't PAY ATTENTION!

good luck!

Why would you FAS with a HCH3. The ICE is off descending a hill to begin with! Once the SOC is full you are in full free wheel. I don't even feel any drag from the ICE unless there is regen. H

Re: CleanMPG Reviews the 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid

Hi Harold:

The HCH-III is either in fuel cut with some regenerative braking or it is consuming depending on the grade. Neither are as efficient as a FAS in many instances if traffic and terrain allow.

Re: CleanMPG Reviews the 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid

How much is the gain with Fas Wayne? Do you believe the same is true with the 1 and 2's? I have yet to drive a 3. I just find that a person can cause allot of damage playing around with the CVT for the miniscule amount of fuel saved? Only my feelings and I am happy with my results! H

Re: CleanMPG Reviews the 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid

Hi Harold:

You should only do what you feel comfortable doing and if FAS'ing needs to be discarded from your tool box, go ahead.

There is nothing miniscule about the various techniques available to you however.

As far as driving the Gen-III HCH, you are reading the forum posts from that drive right now
