new guy saying hello

Our 2012 Prius and Wayne's clinic in Yakima, Wa. earlier this year has brought me here.
Have been experimenting with the fundamentals of this hybrid car and learning a lot about how it does what it does. Our previus car got 16-18 mpg so we are elated as we have decreased our monthly fuel bill by 65% or so. Wasn't ever known as a 'hybrid' or 'Prius' kind of guy (I know you know what I mean...hey is this microphone on? Did I say that out loud?) but now can't imagine how anyone who could get one doesn't.
Nice to be here.
Gonna do some ref work on scanguageII vs ultraguage and the like.

Re: new guy saying hello

Welcome to the board. Similar story here, met up with Wayne while he was driving a 2010 between Chicago and New York. Spent a little time behind the wheel and I was hooked.

My Prius uses 40% of the fuel I was using with my old car.

Welcome to CleanMPG. I'm glad Wayne's clinic was useful and got you wanting to know more.

None taken.

I'm not surprised either to find converts or adamant opponents among those who have experienced the Prius. For "drivers" the slight lag even in Power mode and Toyota's patented robotic driving experience are offputting, while for appliance users visibility, comfort and road noise are issues.

I like it, my wife doesn't.

The programmable XGauge feature in the ScanGauge allows a driver to see values that would otherwise be inaccessible. In a conventional car that's not a big deal, but in a Prius it allows the driver to monitor some key values, such as the inverter coolant temperature.

An alternative for smartphone users is buying an app that works with an OBDII cable.

People here recommend ScanGauge for the XGauge, it's accuracy, because Linear Logic provides excellent support and because it's assembled in the USA. But there are plenty here who use it, Ultragauge or both.

Re: new guy saying hello

I'm assuming that I can use a scanguage II also as an OBD2 device for troubleshooting.
Also if I could remove SG2 from a perm mounted cable I could use it via another cable as a portable device for other cars.
Sound logical?

Re: new guy saying hello

You can buy another cable from Linear Logic if you don't want to disturb the installation in your main car. But it's not even totally necessary;I've taken mine out a number of times to scan the cars of my friends and co-workers.

Re: new guy saying hello

All good info. Thanks.
As I saw on the home page of the forum, looks like I can get a SGII w/ X guage for prius for about $140. Seems reasonable, esp if some dough goes to this site.
