old timer realized- these things are really good
Ordered, received, installed, calibrated, drove
pretty nice to see exactly where your mpg is poor or good-
I really enjoy the one day I have had with my UG- sort of opened my eyes
"you can't brag unless you have one of these"
looking to learn my vehicle from this

Re: old timer realized- these thingsd are really good
thanks
changed 1 gauge on page one- left the other pages as they came
assigned gauges I wanted in page 5
have 6 & 7 blank- to fill in as learn more
surprising is what a 15mph sidewind does- man- it effects things
now for a dead calm day on a section of flat hyway
then I can find out where the engine really likes to cruise
the Volo VP12 performance chip sure seems to agressively advance the timing- will have to one day disconect it to see
this gauge adds another aspect to the driving
no wonder so many of the folks here have them

Re: old timer realized- these thingsd are really good
The UG looks good. I may buy one for our other car. Getting and using my SGII was an eye-opening experience for me. Today , I wouldn't consider driving a car without some sort of iFCD. It'd be like driving naked.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Re: old timer realized- these thingsd are really good
thanks-
not any real wind yesterday early- 56 degrees- so went for a drive, spent a bit of time off road in the Cimmaron Grassland-
changed a few more gauges- engine F and outside F on page one
page 5- ins mpg avg mpg, hp1, trq1, load %, timing adv
interesting as the engine liked 60mph- 33.5 ins mpg, avg mpg read 29.2mpg,
this morning wife wanted to go into town- I wanted to stop asnd fill at the pure gas station to fill up- see how much gas I actually used
173.2 total miles 6.1 gal- 28.39mpg- the Ultra Gauge is pretty accurate
it's pretty easy to see I am beating me previous ins mpg by quite a bit on flat smoothe blacktop- avg- if I hadn't spent time off road I would have beat my old avg again by quite a bit
some time ahead I'm going to put the street tires & wheels that I took off back on and see if there's much difference
wife was skeptical when I topped off the tank- cell phone had a calculator-
"you're just trying to beat my Escape"
well now

Does a it have an engine ping counter?, it may be handy to monitor the effect of the Volo chip and different fuels.

Re: old timer realized- these thingsd are really good
herm- don't think it has- but I'll check gauges listed- 67 it shows
at 60 mph, 33.4 inst mpg, just loping along- the timing adv shows 41 degrees-
quite a bit- sort of surprising
want to hear something interesting-
elevation here is 3,107 '- at the Cimmaron Grassland north of Elkhart it's 3,500'

Re: old timer realized- these thingsd are really good
herm- no I don't have a ping counter- but your question of sparkl plug firing and causing pre ignition(ping) got me thinking
I am out on the road- nice flat spot very smoothe blacktop- sort of- new section of asphalt- shinny black- no crown
I have a stethescope from my old mechanic days-(doctors put the two ends in the ears to listen to heartbeat and lungs) that I had modified a bit- I put the open end under the intake with a slightly long hose- couldn't hear any suggestion of pre ignition- drove in sand= heavy load- then out on this nice section of blacktop
reading my UG-
I slowly increased speed to 60mph- entered the section of blacktop I wanted to do the test- I reset shrt mpg, shrt ave mpg- 3 miles- inst mpg was steady at 35.3- avg was 35.1
timing advance was pretty steady at 41 degrees
turned around and drove back-
slowly increased speed to 50 mph- entered the section- reset shrt mpg, avg mpg, 3 miles-
inst mpg was steady 37.8-avg was 37.2- timing adv was pretty steady at 38 degrees- slowed down and pulled off-
not ever any suggestion of engine ping- matter of fact- my ears said dull sort of throbbing sound every few seconds-
I'm going to slip off the road shortly here- there's some sand in this field I know of- going to work the engine- see if I get pre-ignition

Re: old timer realized- these thingsd are really good
Neat stuff, I depend on the ear to detect pinging in my old truck.. you guys with modern cars dont have that problem since the timing self adjusts for poor fuel, obviously killing your mileage.
I cant tell right away when I get a load of Citgo fuel from 7-11, starts to ping going up a hwy ramp in the hot season.. always better to wait a bit and get some quality Shell or Chevron gas.
