Cool Stuff on Rest Stops for Drivers
On my recent trip driving from Dallas to the Fort Collins Marathon, I stopped at some very cutting-edge rest areas (and some that were crying for help). One of the things was some of them had waterless urinals. A simple filter replaces the plumbing and need for a water connection, yet allows the clean disposal. One filter saves flusing 4,500 gallons of water over 1,000 bathroom trips. More at http://www.waterless.com/

Re: Cool Stuff on Rest Stops for Drivers
I noticed on the PHX trip that rest stops where a bit more high tech and receptive to the travler.

Re: Cool Stuff on Rest Stops for Drivers
I've noticed a lot of rest stops in lots of areas nationwide that have waterless urinals and/or:
solar HW
solar electricity
geothermal heat/cooling
eco-sensitive architecture (ie built-in to hillside)
seems to be an easy way for states to get some 'green' PR or at least press releases, and they don't want to have to deal with full-on utilities for an out-of-the-way spot. Green-conscious design makes a ton of sense for this application.

Re: Cool Stuff on Rest Stops for Drivers
Browse to the bottom of this page. This was one of the rest areas. It had local vegetation that can thrive on the reused and rain water.
