The 2012 Toyota Corolla CE, Corolla LE and Corolla S models are all powered by a 132 HP 1.8L I4 with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (Dual VVT-i). The Corolla XRS is fitted with a 158 HP 2.4L with Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i).

The Corolla CE, Corolla S and Corolla XRS are standard equipped with a five-speed manual transmission. The Corolla LE is fitted with a four-speed automatic with overdrive, which is also available for the Corolla CE and Corolla S. The Corolla XRS is available with a five-speed automatic with overdrive and sequential multi-mode shifter.

The most-produced model among Toyota-brand vehicles is the “Corolla”, of which the 11th generation was launched in Japan on May 11. Cumulative worldwide Corolla production totaled 39 million units so far.

Canadian July 2012 Sales Results

Toyota Canada’s second July sales broke monthly records for a number of models with 15,819 Toyota, Lexus and Scion passenger cars, SUVs and trucks sold. The new July sales record for trucks was due to the RAV4 with sales up 49.3% to 2,190 vehicles.

Hybrids sold well in July, making a significant contribution to the Toyota’s July totals with the c (227), v (344) and Prius hatch (313) vs. just 49 Prius hatches sold during the Japanese earthquake supply constrained July sales month a year ago.

How can the pathetically outdated corolla sell so well!!

Same reason Volvo sold so many 240's up until 1993. The 240 should have been retired in the mid-eighties yet they kept building it due to the continued demand from their customer base. Nostalgia and brand loyalty are the two main sales drivers for the Corolla. If the person buying a new one owned say a 2002 and had very few or no problems they're going right back in for another.
