BMW July 2012 Sales up 4.0%
5 Series sales strengthens further.
Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - Aug. 1, 2012
2012 BMW 5-Series – $46,900 to start and a 23/34 mpgUS city/highway rating when equipped with the 240 HP turbo’ed 2.0L I4.
BMW’s 2012 BMW 528i Sedan was the first BMW to arrive with the TwinPower DI 2.0L I4 engine with an auto start/stop system.
BMW’s DI and turbo’d 2.0L I4
Think of it like an EcoBoost on steroids. The new 2.0L combines high-pressure direct-injection and BMW’s VALVETRONIC intake control (hence the name: TwinPower) with a forced induction system consisting of a single twin-scroll turbocharger.
The maximum output of 240 HP is achieved at 5,000 rpm with peak torque of 260 lb-ft arriving at just 1,250 rpm!
The I4 engine with its all-aluminum crankcase is significantly lighter and more compact than an i or V6 engine of equivalent power. The turbocharger is a twin-scroll system. The exhaust streams leaving the two pairs of cylinders are kept completely separate as they flow through the exhaust manifold and the turbocharger, taking a spiral path to the turbine wheel. This configuration results in very low exhaust back pressure at low engine rpm, and allows the energy of the exhaust gas pulses to be optimally managed and translated into powerful rotation of the turbine blades, without a delay in throttle response.

Re: BMW July 2012 Sales up 4.0%
Hi All:
According to the Wall Street Journal, BMW padded U.S. July sales to edge its luxury rival Mercedes-Benz for the month of July.
According to the WSJ story, the day prior to the July sales figures release, BMW offered dealers discounts of as much as $7,000 per 2012 vehicle if the dealers reported the vehicles as sold on that day. This has all th eearmarks of some nasty surprises for Execs at BMW as hundreds of vehicles that were reported as sold are still on dealership lots.
The one-day discounts on July 31 started at $2,500 for the 528i and went up to the $7,000 for the 7 series.
