Hmmmm........... if you're coming from a Corolla , yes. If you have been driving an LS460 , not so much. Seriously , the Lexus has a nicer interior and more doo-dads. And while the Camry Hybrid is a great car, Lexus owners have a need to be superior to Toyota owners.
Is the Lexus worth the extra coin ? Not to me.

Re: CleanMPG Previews the 2013 Lexus ES 300h

Last time I rode in the previous generation ES I was blown away by the comfort, fit & finish, and overall "cushiness" of the thing. I have yet to find anything as quiet as a Lexus. I would probably buy a Camry for the sake of cost, but it certainly isn't up to the same standard.

I know the Lexus is sweet , but for me , after driving this Civic that has HUGE road noise, the Camry Hybrid would be true luxury. It's probably best that I don't try to drive a Lexus.

Re: CleanMPG Previews the 2013 Lexus ES 300h

Hi All:

The ES 300h is based on the Avalon platform which has almost 2” more wheelbase than the Camry allowing a rear seat room (1.1”) although the independent rear end takes its toll on interior volume with 1 less cu. ft. than the 2012 TCH.

haha well said edwin... i have that same unluxury feeling with my 04 prius right now... but i'd be pretty stupid to trade in another car to get less mpg and be in debt no matter how strong the cravings for RWD, handling, as well as having the option of being cushy and lazy all in one package. (gs450h comes into mind)

Re: CleanMPG Previews the 2013 Lexus ES 300h

Hi Phil:

We covered that one too...

CleanMPG Previews the 2013 Lexus GS 450h

We will have more on the Avalon Hybrid late next month from NAPA Valley.

The Camry Hybrid interior is not a class leader whereas the Avalon has always been a touch above. More Lexus like and with the ESh being so darn nice, I have great expectations for the Avalon Hybrid as well.

Those are some nice numbers....however, given a choice, I would spend my $$$ on the upcoming Lincoln MKZ hybrid. Its cheaper and better looking than ES300h and gets 45 MPG all-around.

Re: CleanMPG Previews the 2013 Lexus ES 300h

Hi Moneysaver:

Regarding the MKZh's upcoming Fuel Economy, their are EPA ratings and what many are achieving in their own commutes. The C-MAX for example is falling short of its goals whereas the Prius v is surpassing it.

Similarly, I suspect the pretty 13 MKZh will provide lack luster fuel economy vs. the ES 300h.
