I don't know if I am doing it the most efficient way, but I am putting up some pretty decent numbers with my FIT.
I target a LOD of ~75% on my SG and shift at 2500 RPM. If I am pulsing past ~30 mph, I will lift slightly when I grab 3rd gear (at about 22 mph) to induce the Torque Converter to lock then back on it and up to 75% LOD.
Can you shift your auto trans? If not I think most people will lift off the accelerator to induce the up shift. Autos are mushy (inefficient) until you get the TC to lock so my theory is to get through gear 1 & 2 as fast as I can to I can get into 3rd and TC locked.
