CleanMPG Reviews the 2012 Hyundai Accent
70 + in mid-winter from a 40 mpg rated Accent spells success.

Re: CleanMPG Reviews the 2012 Hyundai Accent
Hi All:
This is James result on the afternoon of day 1 with the Accent loaded with 4 and our gear while using just the basics and the 7% underreport.
2012 Hyundai Accent Review

50.1 mpg displayed – 53.6 mpgUS actual with loaded Accent and low 20 degree temps.
The pic taken in the afternoon when we got back to the car after Day 1 of the show.
Nice job James!

Re: CleanMPG Reviews the 2012 Hyundai Accent
Hi All:
And why a sub can be so much more useful than a C-segment or larger vehicle…
2012 Hyundai Accent Review

Parking in a tight spot in Chicago’s downtown. Small on the outside, big on the inside
There was a car in front just out of the pic as the second pic showing the SUV up front was blurry. In either case, anything much larger on the outside and we would not have been able to shoe horn the little girl in there forcing us to walk at least another two blocks and driving around more trying to find a place to park.

Re: CleanMPG Reviews the 2012 Hyundai Accent
I'm a bit late here, but I checked my '12 Accent GS 6MT--rated payload is 850 lbs. I remember the 2004-07 Scion xB had a similar or slightly larger payload while the larger and heavier Honda Element was down around 600, so payloads can be surprisingly varied and non-intuitive.
I'm really curious to know how the Accent compares to the Elantra head to head mpg-wise... I got it due to the extra leg + head room in the back that it has over Elantra & other C-segment, plus the extra cargo space in the hatch; the GDI engine was appealing too. The Elantra GT would have made the choice harder, but I'm guessing there will be a significant price difference that would have kept me in the Accent. And I prefer the more understated looks of the Accent. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I can't help but think Hyundai is downplaying the Korean-made Accent in advertising and the numbers on the lots because they make higher profits off of made-in-the-US Elantras. Pure speculation on my part though.

Re: CleanMPG Reviews the 2012 Hyundai Accent
Thanks for checking that. I bet we were over that. Haha. Oops. Sorry Hyundai.
Edit- I paused from drooling over the pics Jud sent of me in the Nissan van long enough to peek at the others. I look like I may be the shortest of the 4 of us and I know what I weigh, so yea. Probably a lot to to with the complains of bad ride too.

Not the first time CleanMPG has been prone to exceed a vehicle's payload capacity, and spank the EPA doing it!

Re: CleanMPG Reviews the 2012 Hyundai Accent
Hi All:
Here are the 2012 Hyundai Accent's Steady State results.
Temps from 23 to 25 degrees F with strong winds out of the south - southwest at between 15 and 20 mph. The route was a NB leg and SB leg on I-94 just over the IL/ WI border headed to Milwaukee and back again. CC was set to 50 mph, 60 mph, and 70 mph with the elevation differences between the start with a reset aFCD and the finish over a minimum of 15-miles no more than 10. I then averaged the two legs and multiplied the steady state aFCD under report by 1.068 for the actuals.
Because of the strong winds, the steady states may include more error than a calm steady state results drive.
2012 Hyundai Accent - Steady State (CC set) Speed vs. FE
| mph | aFCD mpg displayed (mpgUS) | Actual (mpgUS) | | 70 mph | 39.85 | 42.6 | | 60 mph | 45.15 | 48.2 | | 50 mph | 52.75 | 56.3 |
Speedometer Accuracy
The speedometer displays dead on from actual with 60 mph displayed on the speedometer and GPS at 60 mph.
Odometer Offset
Odometer offset calibration was completed above: I reset Trip A/B at the fill and traveled a RT loop covering 64.5 miles. Trip A/B showed just 63.1 miles covered leaving a 2.2% under report of miles traveled as reported above.

Re: CleanMPG Reviews the 2012 Hyundai Accent
Hi Joesgot4:
The next time I get down to MS, we'll go for a ride
All, I just saw that the 2013 NHTSA crash test results are up and as expected, with an average IIHS test score, the NHTSA came in at 4 stars due to that side crash test result as well. Oh if only it arrived with 10-airbags instead of 6, it would have been a slam dunk!
In any case, I included the NHTSA warning comments on its side impact crash test performance in the results as displayed directly below.
