Re: ethanol free fuel - who uses it

5 gallons might not be enough for the engine to adapt.

Re: ethanol free fuel - who uses it

would you run E85 very long in a valuable perfectly running vehicle if it was not designed for E85

I've read alot about how corrosive E85 is-

wonder about a dealer covering the warranty on a non designed vehicle- if they check and find out
I wonder how many have run E85 because it's cheaper- and had problems- but won't admit

Go to pure-gas.org for the nearly 5500 stations, details & addresses selling 100% pure gasoline in the U.S. & Canada. Closest station is in Marshall with 90 octane 100% pure gasoline. You can get 87 octane 100% pure gasoline just north of Detroit.

Re: ethanol free fuel - who uses it

herm- I've enjoyed your posts

had a bit less than 1/2 tank- pulled in at Hamond Oil- the one with the pure & mix pumps
"hi, do you have any restrictions on what I can put in my vehicle"

why do you ask-

just wondering

short of it- "our pumps are marked, customers can put in whatever they want"

so- I put in 7.9 gals of E85

nothing seemed any different as I drove thru town and out on the hwy leading home

7 miles my ins mpg was not at 31.7
18 miles- my ins mpg was not at 31.7
it was reading 28.4

timing adv was different- engine load % was different

we'll see- but I can honestly say this 1/2 E85 1/2 pure was not anywhere near pure on the same exact road same exact speed same exact conditions-
why- because I just drove that same road

there's no way I'm going to believe my engine will settle down and learn how to run on this mixture and do anywhere the same as pure

but- I haven't proved it yet

and just to see- I brought back 2 gallons of this E85 and am going to put it in my lawn mower- rather ruin my mower than ruin my Escape

E85 is $3.059 here

It looks like it adapted already, and the numbers are reasonable.. what were the changes in timing and engine load?

Re: ethanol free fuel - who uses it

Hi herm- afraid to post

timing advance was steady at 38 degrees
engine load % 53.2

jusy got back from a trip
drove to the Cimarron Grass Land-
4 dogs came with me- they like to swim at Point Of Rocks Ponds- I like to sit, enjoy the pretty green grassland
BUT
I took the UG out of the 08 and connected it to the 09
aired the tires up to 50lbs
those little green mile markers-
checked/calibrated- was almost spot on
zeroed the gauges, miles, time, fuel, mpg- pretty simple
didn't change anything- as this is the almost exact copy of the other one

it was dead calm- one of the once a month things out here
slowly accelerated to 60- clicked CC
ins mpg read 31.4 then started to increase- I watched interested
shocking- 2 miles and it was reading 34.2
slowed to 55- soon settled down to 36.2
slowed to 50- settled down to 39.3

I decided I'm trading vehicles with the wife

returning I pulled over- reset the gauges
but this time I slowly increased speed till it went into OD and the TQ locked up
44 mph- 4 miles the ins mpg was steady at 43.9

this Escape has pure 87 octane in the tank

on the way back I stopped in at the tire shop- they know both my Escapes
"you care to come on a drive with me, you might like to see how this Escape does"

Re: ethanol free fuel - who uses it

Those instant mileage numbers are very similar to what I experience in my 08 FEH when steady state cruising with E0 in the tank.

Re: ethanol free fuel - who uses it

Hi herm- the black one is sweet- I might install a Volo Performance Chip- it made a difference in the red one

08 EscapeHybrid- just dawned on me to ask- at 60 mph what is your RPM

I've just about used the tank- the 1/2 E85 1/2 pure

going to fill it up with pure 91
UGEM is back in the 08
