Tires on a 1996 Accord for optimal FE

I haven't been active at all the past year or so, college and other sites seem to have drawn my attention too . . . but I'm back with a question!
I just got a 1996 Honda Accord 2.2L manual and I need new tires . . . badly. Last time for my corolla I got the bridgestone ecopias, but I'm wondering if there's something better you'd recommend. 15 inch wheels, and looking for high FE.
Current tires are 195/65R15

Edit: Looking on tirerack.com and it seems that the 3rd gen prius tires are an exact match, at 195/65/R15 S(not like speed rating matters much to me I won't be going 112mph). Anyone have a 3rd gen prius and can vouch for their tires?

BS Ecopia EP20 come in 195/65R15. That might be the only size. And maybe what you got last time?

Very good for LRR, hard to improve on them, available at Costco.

Two that come to mind are the Michelin Energy Saver A/S and the Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max.

I swear by my Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max. I run 43 lbs ft. and 40 Aft. I normally arrive home at 55+ US mpg with these tires. I have them on year round. H

The correct tire size for that car should be 195/60R15, if you look at the placard in the door jamb. That said, Ecopias are good. I have the 195/60R15 EP422's on my Kia. Also, Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max I hear are the bomb-diggity.

Thanks FSU, I didn't look properly, only at the tires that are already on it >.>

. . . tire prices went up a lot since I bought my last set. I got Bridgestone Ecopias for $85 each, seems closer to $100 now.

That is still cheap, I was paying around $100 a tire for Pirelli P6's, Michelin's and Goodyear NCT's back in the mid eighties in 195/60/15's.

Tires are still relatively cheap compared to the cost of everything else we need for our cars.

Re: Tires on a 1996 Accord for optimal FE

I have no idea what the original mileage was so I don't have a baseline to compare to, but in about 2 weeks I should be getting an ultragauge (cheaper) so I will have much more exact numbers too. Also, my tank doesn't click when "full" at the pump, so I have to just estimate when it's time to stop filling, which will make filling it rather inconsistent.
