Re: Week of June 4th - June 10th, 2012 (Nat Avg $3.62)

No driving yesterday... only a "7 mile" night hike, starting from the next town. With rain. Much rain. Sometimes real downpours. And, because we walked to the start and from the finish, more than twice the distance. "Soaked" does not express our state when we got home after midnight

I made a few pics before sundown, now I go have a look at the CF card. The camera survived in my bag, I guess, it's kind of tough. My phone is waterproof and has a flashlight, it was invaluable. shiNIN's phone, well, now lost the touch with the touch screen.

My local station is selling gasoline for $3.499 last time I looked.

Re: Week of June 4th - June 10th, 2012 (Nat Avg $3.62)

Hot day, 80 degrees, full sun, light tailwind(I think), no stoplights, 55mph on the highway, 14 miles, 105.5mpg Conditions were as ideal as I feel they usually ever are for MPG.

..although these temps I'll spend more money cooling the house than I would if it were a cooler day getting worse MPG so it's a bit of a wash when the temperatures get to 90 degrees like we're expecting here today. I'm doing what I can with dew point economization and properly timed operation of the A/C to really cut back on its use while maintaining a good enough level of comfort, sort of a pulse and glide, drive with load type thing for a house air conditioner. I should walk away from today, a day that will reach 90 degrees using between about 10-14kwh.

Update: Ended up using only 9kwh. On a 90 degree day? I woke up from my Sunday nap a bit warm, other than that, no foul.

Re: Week of June 4th - June 10th, 2012 (Nat Avg $3.62)

Yesterday's numbers rechecked no PR just a late night simple math error. When working with such small numbers you get big swings in the MPGe. I original calculated a 3.9 mi drive out at under 112 wh/mi rechecking the calculations came out at 122. This effectively squelched the PR. One of these days I'm hoping a 300 is out there. Need 112 wh/mi for that milestone.

5.1 mi @ 131.3 wh/mi = 255.6 MPGe
3.9 mi @ 122 wh/mi = 275 MPGe

Days total 9 mi @ 127.49 wh/mi = 263.22 MPGe

Had a good tail wind going into town yesterday and almost no traffic. Maximum glides As for the noisy Harley. He is a regular and this guy can be heard at about a mile away. It isn't the engine exhaust that is obnoxiously loud, it is his high decibel custom audio. IMO A real waste of some good watts. His exhaust might actually be load also but you can't hear it with all the audio racket.
Mike

MN driver it might be a good day to take in some air conditioned entertainment, like a movie, and figure the added benefit into the ticket price.

Re: Week of June 4th - June 10th, 2012 (Nat Avg $3.62)

Still a great result EVuser

Went to visit some friends in the country, great run, 63°F, uphill:
58.0 / 23.8

On the way back, realised youngest had left her DS when we'd got half a mile so had to turn around and go back. Had one 1 mile FAS and loads of coasting in 'N', great run:
63.4 / 25.2

60.6mpg for the total 49 mile trip

Tank up 0.3 to 57.4 / 472.2 / DTE408 Guess gauge on 6+/14 1/2 tank came at 435 miles, 25 miles better then I've ever had in 6 years of ownership

Back to the commute tomorrow after 2 weeks off work, tank dropping time

Re: Week of June 4th - June 10th, 2012 (Nat Avg $3.62)

We went out to lunch in the Leaf with high winds and temperatures. Of course the wife really wanted to visit the restaurant needing a highway route (and AC), too... but I remain impressed with what this car can do!

91F, 25-36mph crosswind from the S, mostly sunny:
  • 4.3mpk over 8.5mi --> 144.3 MPGe (Home to restaurant)
  • 4.8mpk over 9.0mi --> 161.1 MPGe (Restaurant to ATM to home)
Day Total: 4.5mpk over 17.5mi --> 151 MPGe

I'll probably be driving later this evening to bring everyone to the movie theater -- the kids (well, Victoria... Nicholas is too young to care yet) really want to see Madagascar 3.

Re: Week of June 4th - June 10th, 2012 (Nat Avg $3.62)

FRV thanks for the encouragement. I'm really striving for that 300 and getting closer. Might need some more psi to go over the hump.

The air temp is in the 90's and the wind about 15-20 out of the NE. Relative humidity is 9%. Feels pretty cool in the shade.

No R-134 was compressed and expanded during this drive. That a/c uses about 1500 watts so unless others need it I keep it off.

Made another planned change to the car before today's drive. Replaced the dc/dc converter with a new higher voltage Azure unit. I wasn't expecting this to make any difference at all in the overall efficiency. Could be I was wrong.

Did a bunch of errands and here is the results of a all urban drive. Even stopped to let another EV owner test drive the new batteries so some non-hypermiling power applications were made for a brief time. The rabbit were helping with the lights and regen took care of the little needed extra. The Force has aggressive regen that is easy to modulate so DWB is for real as it will stop the car quicker than most drivers brake if needed in a 25-35 mph scenario.

15 mi @ 114.43 wh/mi = 293.25 MPGe which I believe is a newly recorded PR

Hope all you in MN don't get any bad weather out of those storm cells west of Minneapolis

Mike

Well done, Mike!!

We got some heavy rain here but that was about it. We ended up taking the FFH tonight because the wife wanted to drive but I drove it back through the rain storm. 37.8mpg through that mess.

For the Leaf,

Total Usage: 3.9 kWh
Adj. Cost: $0.61

Cleaning up last week

58.7 -- 28.3 miles (work to bank, customer then golf course -- first really good ball striking round of the year!)

62.7 -- 24.4 miles (golf course to home in ideal conditions -- hard to come back from 0 to 50 to 0 to 50 in under a mile )
