Re: Pulse and Glide technique
Exactly. If the radio drains energy from your brain, then by all means turn it off. But (unless you have it cranked up) it drains hardly anything from your car.

Re: Pulse and Glide technique
The radio/CDplayer is a distraction for me. At least if I am playing music. Mostly , I listen to talk radio since it seems that I can easily tune out human voices.
Drives the wife crazy sometimes.
But I WILL listen to music if I am driving for long periods on roads that don't demand 100% of my attention (Interstate highways).

Talk radio does that to her, or your tuning out her voice does?

Re: Pulse and Glide technique
for those that P&G with the engine off, how exactly do you do it?
do you get up to 50 mph, put it in neutral, cut the engine off with key, then we you are down to 40 mph, turn the key to crank, put it in 6th gear, and continue on?

Re: Pulse and Glide technique
Hi twoodcc:
Since you own a clutch equipped Si, are you familiar with bump starting? In addition, do you know about ACC2 vs. off??? FAS'ing is a very advanced technique and I hope you have completely without thought mastered the basics before even contemplating the advanced tools. Doing anything wrong and you may in fact be receiving less FE rather than more let alone misunderstanding the cars status can have very serious and even deadly consequences similar to driving above the PSL when an incident directly ahead is encountered. If you are not 100% exactly sure what you are doing, please for all our sakes do not move forward until you have mastered the basics.

Re: Pulse and Glide technique
Wayne,
i'm asking here first before i try anything new. i am familiar with bump starting, but have only done it on a motorcycle. i am not familiar with ACC2 (at least i don't think so)
do you P&G with the engine off yourself? would you mind giving a brief example of how you do it?
Thanks!

Re: Pulse and Glide technique
Sean,
Thanks for pointing me to that post. it was very informative. i do have a few questions:
first, with engine on coasting, it took me 12 seconds to glide from 55mph to 45mph in 6th gear. it took 20 seconds to do the same in neutral. does this seem right? am i doing it right? this was on a somewhat flat road.
i did not try with the engine off, but i did coast into my driveway with the engine off. i guess it was my first FAS?

Re: Pulse and Glide technique
Yes -- there is more internal resistance when in gear. Putting the transmission into neutral will extend your glides -- that's a good thing!
If you were rolling with the engine off that was a FAS.
