Re: GM Google Ad - See why Cruze beats Elantra???
A local dealer is offering new Cruze for $15,000- pretty cheap price-soon enough they will be under $15000- not bad for a nice enough car with good FE.
The seats aren't too good?? Shame-GM's trucks have REALLY comfortable seats.
Charlie
PS Too bad they don't offer a hatch here- or a SW.

Too bad they only have one model that will do that, yet they don't seem to be putting that one out in large numbers.

The Eco Cruze is putting up excellent sales numbers. Seem lots of Eco Cruze people can get deep into the 40 mpg highway range & some into the high 40's & low 50's. Conversely, lots of Elantra people(specially with the automatic) are getting what they consider, poor mpg. I suspect a good Elantra manual transmission & intelligent feather footing will plop the Elantra deep into 40mpg terrain. Also, some Elantra automatic tranny drivers are well into 40 mpg territory.
But generally, the Eco Cruze nailed the mpg game the best, with some turbo, direct fuel-injection & other good gear. I do wonder with the Eco Cruze's extra complexity, weight & extra 1.4 liter engine stress, if the extra mpg will be paid for by extra time in the repair shop.
Anyhow, its great to get high mpg, with vehicles you don't have to apologize to the three people sitting in the back seat. You're not asking, but Elantra has 1 inch greater rear shoulder width than Cruze, more leg room, but tighter on rear seat headroom..... & the Elantra middle seat is terrible. If Hyundai brings an Elantra hatchback to the U.S., that should give more headroom in the rear seat. Hope they can hold the 40mpg rating.

- The Cruze is 2.7 inches longer and almost 400 pounds heavier, so you're getting "more car for your money".

Silly thinking. The Elantra has one more inch of rear shoulder width, but 1 inch less exterior width, making Elantra in two ways, more space efficient. Of course, the Cruze extra length just makes it better as a parking bumper car. The extra 400 pounds coupled with the complex 1.4 liter turbo, puts more stress on the drive-train, meaning the Cruze will be in the repair shop more often.
Yeah, americans believe bigger is better, but then forget, they got to drag it around.
& just to think, you still haven't figured the greatest advantage of the Cruze(specially the Eco Cruze) over the Elantra.

Re: GM Google Ad - See why Cruze beats Elantra???
The "more rear seat legroom" is probably significant.
Of course GM will trumpet the hy FE of its best version-why would they do otherwise?
Which actually is cheaper-sells for less-a mid trim Cruze AT or a mid trim Accent AT?
I'm guess GM is selling more because they cost less-
On the bright side the Cruze isn't a Cobalt- it is a VERY GOOD car-maybe not quite best in class- but very good.
The Cruze isn't a crummy-but cheap- car-nothing like GMs small car offering from 5 years on back(back to maybe a Corvair or Chevy 2 decent enough cars relative to competition)

I bet it is cheaper-maybe better incentive/lower interest-traditional GM strategy to sell volume keep the lines pumping out cars?
