Re: Welcome to CleanMPG
Hi
I am retired, late 60's and try to squeeze the best mileage out of my vehicles that I can. Our daily driver is a 2012 base Fit automatic. We have a 2002 Toyota Sienna with 131000 mi which gets between 22-28 mpg and has been a great vehicle. We also have a 2003 Lazy Daze motorhome with a Ford 6.8L V10 that gets about 8-9 mpg. We live in Wisconsin 8-9 months, and then go to FL for the winter. About 15-20K per year total.
We traded in our 2002 RAV4 for the Fit. I did a lot of coasting with the manual RAV, and would like to do the same in the Fit, but have some concerns about doing so with the auto transmission. I would appreciate any comments on that subject.

Re: Welcome to CleanMPG
Hello,
I have joined this forum to continue to grow my knowledge of how to get the most of my car.
Which is a 2011 Honda Civic DX-G auto. I drive over 65,000km per year traveling to and from work five days a week. Since the beginning I have been obsessively tracking my fuel usage and after a year of owning my car I'm making a real push to get the most out of it.
Last tank I set an all time record of 44 mpg and this tank I'm already predicting at least 55 mpg. I know this cause I have acquired an Ultra-Gauge which I have found to be simply awesome. Please see fuelly link below for a more detailed look.
Thanks and I hope to learn lots,
Jeff

Re: Welcome to CleanMPG
Welcome, Jeff! From 44 (already your best ever) to 55 is a HUGE jump! Good work. Having a gauge makes all the difference.

Hi Bob and welcome to CleanMPG! The Fit is pretty decent, although the AT limits you. It's particularly helpful if you can keep the top speed down so the engine doesn't have to work too hard.
In an automatic you can still coast with the engine on and transmission in neutral . For engine-off coasting, check the towing rules: the maximum engine-off flat-towing speed will tell you whether and how fast you can coast engine-off.
In Florida, with a recent law change you can coast in neutral downhill legally.
For light reading I suggest you start with the CleanMPG Primer, which contains links to several hypermiling articles.
I wish you success, including with the motor home!

Re: Welcome to CleanMPG
Hello
Joined up after visiting here for awhile-
Always enjoy getting the most out of any vehicle- I drive them hard sometimes- I drive them easy for the best mileage most times
been a mechanic most of my life-
have 2 Escapes- both 4WD, V6, auto- the 09 is getting better gas mileage-
all arround average is pretty good on both
best mileage I've gotten was coming back from Colorado- 343 miles- 69 mph w/o cruise- really driving for mileage- 30.999mpg
I am working a bit on trying to get the 08 up to it
nice to find this forum-
I figure I'll learn somethings-

Re: Welcome to CleanMPG
I am new to this site. Just bought a used 09 Prius with 95k last week. The first week I was averaging about 41 mpg. During the same commute this week the car now seems sluggish and mileage went down to about 38. Battery is running in the blue most of the time this week . Third and fourth bar down and sometimes goes to green bar second down where last week I was running in the green most of the time. I am worried that I was sold a car with underlying issues by the dealer ( a Toyota dealer in CT) I looked at the air filter and it was filthy so I changed that today I hope that helps a little
Does anyone have any advise and or fixes?
Thanks!

Welcome to CleanMPG.
There are a lot of variables in mileage, even with "normal" driving. First I'd recommend posting at priuschat.com where there are people who can better help with technical issues.
Join PriusChat.
Copy the questionnaire from here
http://priuschat.com/threads/fuel-ec...ure-new.77074/
Post a new Thread in the Gen 2 maintenance and troubleshooting subforum http://priuschat.com/f/gen-ii-prius-...leshooting.12/
Your mileage issues can be due to a change in conditions or indicate a problem. It can be as simple as correcting tire pressures or replacing the 12V battery.
I wish you success in resolving any technical issues and when you're done please come back and ask questions to help your improve your driving to get the most out of your car.
