Re: Kia Reliability
Found out the price of a KIA Rio with ISG was going to be about the same as the new Prius C,
so we decided to skip the Rio.. Our Prius C2 is on it's way. Might be here next week.
One local KIA dealer just informed me, the new Rios w/ ISG will be here at the end of this month.

Re: Kia Reliability
Thanks, but it's not going to be much fun for me..
Since my wife doesn't like it when I re-adjust her mirrors, steering wheel, seat and radio stations..

Re: Kia Reliability
Ah. I know how that is. I don't play with the radio (other than to turn it off) and I've gotten relatively adept at returning the mirrors, seat, and steering wheel to their original positions.

Re: Kia Reliability
I don't mess with her mirrors, seat, wheel, anything. It's safer that way.

Re: Kia Reliability
Ya know, The new Prius V has about the same cargo space as my Ford Escape
(which might have pretty good trade-in value/low miles). I'm just sayin...
Anyways, we are still keeping the Rio in mind, just in case our deal for the C2 fails to materialize.

Re: Kia Reliability
I'm afraid I mostly can't put that idea into practice because she's 5'6" and I'm 6'5".

Re: Kia Reliability
I do not know if this will help becauase it is based on 3 to 6 year old UK extended repair warranty data ... including frequency and cost of repair.
Kia ranks in the top 5 out of 35 OEMs. http://www.reliabilityindex.com/manufacturer/relIndex
According to Warranty Direct, Honda, Suzuki, Toyota, and Ford make up the top 4 in the UK.
It will allow search by make & model. However, there is no specific data on the Rio for the period.
Quote:
How often it needs repairing, and how much it will cost you to put right. A car could break down five times, but only cost you £50 each time to fix, or it could break down once and set you back £1,000. That's why the Reliability Index figure combines several elements - cost, inconvenience and rate of failure - making it a 'real world' picture of car ownership.
This 'reality check' is only possible thanks to the data acquired over more than a decade by Warranty Direct on the hundreds of thousands of cars it has covered and the millions of pounds worth of claims it has paid to keep UK motorists mobile.

Re: Kia Reliability
WOW, I hadn't seen that reliability data before. Looks GREAT! I'd take their repair cost aspect of their data with a grain of salt though, since parts costs (especially for European makes) may be wildly different in the UK vs the US.
IMO, all of the publicly available reliability data for the US is substantially flawed: - Consumer Reports has the largest database (nearly 2M subscribers per year reply to their survey). But records of repair incidence are highly subjective, with the criteria being "repairs that YOU [the subscriber] consider serious" in terms of cost, safety or downtime. I consider their data to be the best available, but I still don't fully trust it.. Owners who are especially loyal to their cars (Hi VW!) may be more likely to gloss over and not report problems, and I don't think the criteria effectively take repair costs into account.
- JD Power's "long term" reliability survey only goes out to 3 years. So basically meaningless. Good reflection of the number of initial bugs and recalls that need to be worked out, but not very indicative of true long term reliability.
- Edmunds and a number of other sources use data from Identifix, which I think is supposed to reflect warranty claims like the UK data above. But after looking at a lot of their data, I don't see much correlation with reality.
- TrueDelta.com was designed specifically to address some of the above flaws, and tries to be more objective. But their sample size is pretty small, and although they do collect repair cost data it's spotty and anecdotal, with no attempt made to predict average repair costs by make or model.
