Hyundai April 2012 Sales up 1%
More importantly, 38 percent of all Hyundai vehicles sold last month have a 40_mpg highway rating!
Wayne Gerdes - CleanMPG - May 1, 2012
2012 Hyundai Accent Sedan - $12,545 to start, a 30/40 mpgUS city/highway rating and an unusually spacious 89.7/13.7 cu. ft. of passenger/cargo volume make for one of if not the best value on the road today.
While its base specs and price are absolutely delectable, the Accents exterior and interior design, interior material selection and appointments are a step above its competitors that cost thousands of $’s more.
A few examples can be seen in the now famous fluidic sculpture design language. It is moving before you have even touched the key. The interior headliner is an actual cloth like piece with visors completely wrapped in the same material. How about a real sunglass holder, dual interior lights, map lights underneath the visors and cloth inserts in the doors. Adding, consider the ergonomically functional driver layout and pleasing interior colors with chrome accents.
From the propulsion side, an honest to goodness direct injected 1.6L engine providing 138 HP to propel its 2,396 – 2,654 pound platform. My more than 3,300 pound Accord EX-L is being driven by a 160 HP 2.4L and nobody has ever complained about that vehicles power to weight ratio.
All-in, a class favorite and for a price that is not only worthy of your consideration but on a feature comparable basis, may in fact provide the lowest total cost of ownership of any vehicle available in America!
Hyundai April 2012 Sales
Hyundai earlier today announced an all-time April sales record of 62,264 units, up 1 percent over last year’s all-time April record, and the second best sales month in company history after last month’s all-time record.
Another positive for future residuals is that Hyundai’s fleet sales continue to account for less than 10% of its monthly sales, amongst the lowest levels in the industry according the April sales release details.
Hyundai April 2012 Sales Highlights
The real winner is Hyundai’s 2012 Accent. Not so much on an overall volume basis at 6,160 vehicles sold but on the increase compared to last April’s 4,390 unit sales performance and how it is selling compared to the rest of its B-Segment competitors. In April it outsold the Fiesta, Fit, Yaris and Rio while just missing the sales mark set by the well established Sonic and catching up to the perennial sales leading Versa.
The Sonata continues to sell well with over 20,000 vehicles sold in April.
Santa Fe saw a 9.5% increase and Veloster was purchased by 3,192 enthusiasts prior to the release of the fire breathing turbo.

“Low availability of our 40-mpg highway Accent, Veloster, and Elantra definitely impacted our final sales result.”
