Re: My First Honda -- Update: Upgraded to a BMW!

Put the bike away for the winter before I could get much fuel consumption info on it. Remote oil reservoir was annoying, just one more thing to drain and another possible mess. Unfortunately I got some good drips onto the exhaust pipe while I was draining it so things are going to be smoky when I start it up next spring.

Re: My First Honda -- Update: Upgraded to a BMW!

Been riding for a few weeks now. Between old gas and cold weather I think this tank's fuel economy is going to be much lower than I would like. Probably somewhere in the 50-60mpg range. I don't think the engine is even making it to full temperature during my commute

I will also have to try my bicycle out once it gets warmer and less windy.

Don't forget to make a log!

How long is your commute?

The commute is about 11km each way through city traffic. Takes 20-30 minutes.

I think of my time on two wheels as a commune, not a commute. They clear the mind in ways that non riders can't understand. Have a great Canadian summer!

Sometimes it feels like a therapy

And one more thing: riding home can keep me awake after night shifts, and it's really something!

(Riding many hours after a row of night shifts is on the edge of being too much, though.)

Yes even on the worst days a ride can be very clearing for the mind. First tank is in the books now, 58.6mpg. I am sure it will get better though. It better.

Re: My First Honda -- Update: Upgraded to a BMW!

In what weather did you achieve it?

The winter has gone here, we're leaving all the frost behind soon, with temps getting closer to 20C in the afternoons and closer to 10C in the mornings I got under 3l/100km lately (and over 80mpg with my last tank)

I had a worse tank before it (3.07l/100km | 71.7mpgUS), mostly because I was accelerating too gently and going too slow (seldom in 5th) because of the dying drive belt. It seems better to open the throttle more and even P&G when I feel like it. I still think lower gears desperately need P&G to get some efficiency. And it can do good in 5th too, especially downhills.

Other than that: our Honda dealer has an NC700S now, and they'll let people do test rides with it, but only guided short ones, so I won't be able to try its FE

But at least I could have a look at its front luggage bay, and it could almost contain the small backpack I use as a 'tank bag' with Teresa. If it was a bit narrower I could even pack more in that bag, so a bit different shape would be better for an NC700S.
