Captain of the Costa Concordia - JOTY?

OK, this is driving a cruise liner, but going too close to shore then abandoning ship may make Francesco Schettino the 2012 Jerk of the Year: see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Costa_Concordia_disaster Oh - half a million gallons may leak thanks to the sarcastically annointed "Chicken of the Sea"

Thoughts?

Re: Captain of the Costa Concordia - JOTY?

He would be high up there on my list. Although he did make a thrilling audio in his pleasant conversation with the Coast Guard

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I am more and more bothered by his breaking the unwritten rule of ship's captain - you go down with your ship. Whether or not they find him criminally or even civilly liable for anything, he's a disgrace to real captains who honor their profession.
