2012 Chevy Cruze Eco: Mileage gain, no pain
22% of Cruze sales Eco, 55% of those are manuals
James R Healy - USATODAY - May 26, 2011
The Cruze Eco MT is a hit --Ed.
The Eco version of the Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan is the fuel-mileage special. It currently holds the highest highway rating (42 mpg) for any gasoline-power car sold in the U.S.
It's a separate model in the Cruze line, positioned in price and equipment halfway between the $17,275 LS starter and the $22,975 LTZ high-end version.
Added in January, Eco now generates 22% of Cruze sales, Chevy says. And it's 27% of Cruze sales on the import-favoring West Coast. "Eco is making some serious inroads for us," says Chuck Russell, vehicle line director for compacts.
Eco, you might recall, is the car that President Obama alluded to in his energy speech, saying that conventional cars, not hybrids, already are "rolling off the lines in Detroit getting 50 mpg."
Can the Eco (actually made in Ohio) really hit 50 mpg?... [Read More]

Re: 2012 Chevy Cruze Eco: Mileage gain, no pain
Strange, but the EPA (<http://www.fueleconomy.gov/>) only lists the 2012 Cruze Eco at 39 mpg highway. The 2012 Hyundai Elantra MT beats the Cruze Eco in city, highway, and combined fuel economy estimates.
2012 Cruze Eco
26/39/31
2012 Hyundai Elantra MT
29/40/33

That's the 2012 Cruze Eco Automatic, rated at 26/39. (Scroll down on the page to see it's the Automatic). They don't have a 2012 rating for the Cruze Eco MT
The 2011 Cruze Eco AT was only 26/37. As somebody else here noted, all the AT's have had their highway rating bumped by 2mpg.

Here is the part that you missed ... Shared MPG Estimates https://www.fueleconomy.gov/mpg/MPG....rue&details=on
Granted this is 2011 results, however, this seems to clearly show that users are getting as good as or better than sticker and no doubt that driver, driving style, and operating environment are part of the equation. Ave. User of 42.2 mpg (at roughly 85% highway) is a little better than sticker highway of 42 mpg.
According to ORNL, there seems to be a negative "bias" in sticker values that increase as fuel economy increases and apparently even more pronounced in fuel frugal diesels according to an ORNL study (the folks that run the Shared MPG Estimates system).
A major portion of the purpose of Shared MPG Estimates is to unravel the "mystery" between real world experience and EPA sticker and allow more realistic ESTIMATES of expected fuel economies ... possibly taking into account driving style and environment.
You and your friends can help by using MY MPG https://www.fueleconomy.gov/mpg/MPG.do?action=garage
And there is a MOBILE APP for loading your fuel consumption and miles at fueleconomy.gov/m https://www.fueleconomy.gov/mpg/MPG.do?app=m
In exchange for participation, the site will maintain the FE log(s) for your garage ... IF ... you are interested.
IF ... you are considering participation, study ALL of the HELP https://www.fueleconomy.gov/mpg/help.html
And you will be helping make the ESTIMATES more accurate for all of US on a more timely and organized basis. Shared experience and knowledge ... if you will.
