Week of December 20th - December 26th 2010 (Nat Avg $2.87)
It's Christmas week, folks! I hope that you stay warm and don't end up in too much congestion trying to finish up that last little bit (or all! ) of your Christmas shopping.
No driving for work for me until the 3rd of January.

Re: Week of December 20th - December 26th 2010 (Nat Avg $2.87)
For some reason my tank suddenly drank about a gallon more than it usually does. I can't remember the last time I paid $37 to fill up. I'm going to really have to stretch the life of this tank. Hopefully holidays means less people on the road when I drive to work.

I guess I didn't do too bad today considering the temperatures and that the majority of the driving was highway/city. The temperature was 16F when I started and got up to 22F by the time I got done taking my daughter to voice lessons and out to eat. I had 74.4 mpg over 38.6 miles.

Re: Week of December 20th - December 26th 2010 (Nat Avg $2.87)
I got my best mileage in a long time, and my best winter mileage yet.
86.3mpg after work today, at my usual extralegal cruising speed. I had to drive 6mi into the country, on a 45/55mph PSL highway that's excellent for fuel economy. By the time I got back into town, it was no longer rush hour, and I P&G'd through the village where I normally gas & brake. I finally took my own advice and used 4th gear LB whenever I couldn't use 5th.
So, >80mpg in the winter isn't just for slowpokes.

Re: Week of December 20th - December 26th 2010 (Nat Avg $2.87)
Still snowy here, so I bus and walk again.
The sprocket has finally arrived - so I sent Teresa to the workshop by trailer. She'll get a new front rim too, with a fitting brake disc: it's kind of my last attempt to get the front brake as smooth as it should be. And to eliminate my concerns about the next inspection in 2012. (Could only pass the last exam with a 'guest' rim...)
I also asked the mechanic to leave the old brake pads on, if possible, otherwise I wont' ever know how long I take to wear one And I'm quite positive that it'll be the 'final' front disc, as I won't wear it even in a million kms The rear one will may be replaced later as the rear brake was dragging for a while. She'll need now tires too, perhaps at the 70k maint - probably before the 60-hour "48 hours in the national parks of Hungary" tour.

Re: Week of December 20th - December 26th 2010 (Nat Avg $2.87)
I guess people have the entire week off. As soon as I got out of the downtown mixmaster, it was smooth sailing the rest of my 9 miles home. Thus I got to drive 55mph without pissing anyone off! I wish I could find a way around the 3 stop signs I have to get through to get to the main road.

Re: Week of December 20th - December 26th 2010 (Nat Avg $2.87)
Went out to meet a good friend for lunch today across town. The trip down had fewer stop lights. I also found a good use for that tape adapter that's been sitting unused in my Elantra -- the GPS sounds much better through the stereo in my Insight.
21F (10F windchill), 10mph wind from the WSW, overcast with flurries:
- 74.4mpg for 17.3mi (Home to restaurant)
- 71.2mpg for 17.5mi (Restaurant to home)
The tank is steady at 72.8mpg over 392.8mi with 13 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
Day Total: 72.8mpg over 34.9mi

Re: Week of December 20th - December 26th 2010 (Nat Avg $2.87)
Woo hoo! New single trip record for my morning commute! Not much traffic and temps a little warmer contributed. The trip home wasn't great but can't complain.
87.0 MPG / 11.0 Miles home to work
55.9 MPG / 12.0 Miles work to home
