With 70% of our electric generation from fossil fuels, and 50% of new installed capacity being fossil, it will be a LONG time before a low mpg, high KWh/mi vehicle like the Volt will reduce GHG emissions regardless of AER.
I can think of vastly better ways to spend $41000 on being green. My money is on a Prius PHV and $10000 of solar panels. Well, not yet, but you get the idea.
It depends on your miles. How about a regular Prius, a bike or e-bike and solar panels?
