Creative Scangauge Alternatives

I know the original PLX Kiwi has been generally seen as lacking in comparison w/ the ScanGauge, but what about these?

Re: Creative Scangauge Alternatives

Nice concept, but only if it transmits data more useful than the device, and hopefully without all the playschool graphics.

Personally, it would not do me any good since I have a Blackberry.

Re: Creative Scangauge Alternatives

I would be more interested in this style of graphical interface than the Scanguage concenpt, which is a pile of numbers that have to be mentally interpreted. But, like the above poster, I'm a Blackberry user. A separate device, such as in GPS devices that are used in cars everywhere, would be appealing.

Regards, Paul.

Re: Creative Scangauge Alternatives

What if you want a second device that allows you to see MPG and a few other things but is cheeper, I am thinking of getting one of these smaller devices for the wifes cars as SG does not allow you to retain information from car to car so that you could just take it from one to the other without losing data.

If ScanGage is paying attention, I think there is a market emerging for a MiniSG for the basic/intro ecodriver.

I like the mini kiwi simple and easy to use (always importing for non-hypermiler folks that you are trying to convert) ($90)

there is also one called the ecometter from autometer ($70)
http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...5&autoview=sku

But for anthing beyond the basics, get the SG a dataport software/computer packages will allow you to review of your driving habits to help refine them for the hypermiler.

just my 2.5 cents.

Re: Creative Scangauge Alternatives

I have the Kiwi MPG (small one). I bought it off ebay for 79.99 including shipping. It is OK. The biggest problem is calibrating it for your vehicle. It's not extremely hard, but it takes several test runs to get it near accurate. It doesn't have an input for engine size, but it does have one for your tank size, price of fuel, calibration setting, etc. Overall, it will help you improve your efficiency, but it's not going to be pinpoint accurate (but you can get it close).
