Re: 2011 Ford Fiesta details deduced
In my mind it's really a question of potential vs. realization thereof. From what I understand of EcoBoost in its current form, and what we know of the first cars to get it (Taurus SHO), they haven't implemented the FE tricks that would make a 1.6 DI/turbo more efficient than a 1.6 without either. Instead they appear to have succeeded in making it as efficient while providing peak power equivalent to a much larger "normal" engine. That's the only reason I'm not lamenting our not getting the 1.6 EB (yet). Obviously if they change their minds and let this system reach its true potential I'm all for it! And I hope they will do so as they get comfortable with the performance of the hardware they have available to them.
I'm gonna want mine with a stick, though.

Can you EcoBoost on Atkinson cycle? Put the 1.6 EB in the FFH and see what happens?

Sure. IIRC Atkinson+turbo = miller cycle. Didn't Mazda do that in the Millenia?

60+ easily, 70+ with some effort, and on a challenge route it could likely stretch to 100.

I think you're right, Andrew. My Elantra will consistently hit mid to high 70's in city traffic during summer -- I'd love to see what one of these could do!

Come on Jeff, you give Wayne way to little credit .
Don't forget what he did with the corolla rated 21/30 city/hwy. over 62mpg. This car is worth high 70's low 80's with Wayne behind the wheel.

Re: 2011 Ford Fiesta details deduced
With the EcoBoost engine off the table, I won't consider one of these. I want a very efficient, fun-to-drive car. Depending on what FE the Fiat 500 gets, I may take a good hard look at one of those too.
Yes it's worth 40 mpg in my hands. I'd love a car with over 40 mpg EPA so I could have fun crushing EPA with 60 mpg.

You're right. My apologies, Wayne - next time you're in central PA swing by and show me how to beat more than 30 MPG out of my two GM beasts. Either that, or maybe I'll have one of these by then?
I wasn't trying when I drove it, and got 40~41 MPG. If I was trying, probably 50? So that'd put many of you folks in the 60's, and Wayne in the 70-80 MPG area?
99LeCouch - to be honest, a 1.6L EcoBoost would be OVERKILL. It had more than enough zip-bang on the NA 1.6 Ti-VCT that was in the one I drove. Unless you are looking for a little nudge of over-the-top power? I agree with whoever proposed a 1.2L EcoBoost for it.

Sounds like you should look at the VW Jetta TDI (Diesel).

With the 1.6l rated at 118hp and 2500 lbs that little car is as quick as my 2.5l V6 with 160hp!
