Another Newbie

Hi, just want to introduce myself. Mark's the name and I came across this forum while searching for information about the new ScanGaugeII that I just purchased. I've come across some interesting topics so far, but I'm going to have some problems with the local language.

I do have one question/comment that might be of interest here. Why is my older Honda Civic more fuel efficient than nearly every newer automobile built today? I have a 1992 LX with 138K miles, which gets 42+ in town mileage while Jack-Rabbiting and driving like a crazy man, and has done as well as 62 MPG at 80+ MPH, fully loaded with 4 people plus a dog on the interstate.

Re: Another Newbie

Hi Novartis:

___Welcome to CleanMPG!

___Your older Civic is lighter, smaller, and more fuel efficient because it includes far less emission controls, far less safety devices less passenger capacity and far less amenities.

___Regarding 40 + and 60 + at 80 + mph, if it is sustainable, you would have one of the most fuel efficient non-hybrid Civics ever conceived. Even the Lean burn HX could not pull 60 + mpg at 80 + mph. What is your lifetime as that would be more reasonable as to your actual vs. a one off run from point A to B unless it was top off to MT and a top off for the calc's?

___Regarding the SG-II, it is an OBD-II compliant device and will not work in a 92 Civic

___I hope this helped?

___Good Luck

___Wayne.

Re: Another Newbie

When using premium grade fuel, my civic consistently gets mid 50's MPG highway, and has done 60 on multiple trips from Greeley, CO to Goodland, KS, driving a route on HWY 34, HWY 71 and I-70. I always use cruise control, with the speedometer set at 80. I purchased this particular civic new, and it has never gotten below 39 MPG city driving, and I have the all the records of every fill up over its 138K miles, and I always top off.

What is MT (Manual Transmission?)

As for the Scan Gauge II, I'm using it on another vehicle.

Welcome, sounds like your off to an amazing start. Keep up the good work.

And to answer your question, yes MT means Manual Transmission.
