Re: The Wishful Thinking of Greenie Dreams
- As has already been shown above, the CFL/mercury argument is total garbage. And even the graph above assumes CFLs are sent to the landfill. Many of us recycle them. I tend to hang onto them for a year or two and then drop them off at a recycler when I happen to be in the neighborhood anyway. Same as I do with used Lithium batteries from my smoke detectors and other hazardous waste.
- Of course Dust to Dust has been completely discredited here more times than anyone can count.
- The nickel smelting argument is patently ridiculous. There's something like 20-30 pounds of nickel in a Prius battery. Remember that stainless steel is something like 15-20% nickel, which means that the average contemporary kitchen contains more nickel than a Prius, yet you don't hear the contards screaming about how un-green kitchens are. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the bumpers on a Hummer contain almost as much nickel as a Prius battery.
- The biofuels argument is the only one that has substantial truth to it. That doesn't make a trend, something the author of the article is trying to fabricate.
